Mild cam install

Thinking about doing a very mild street cam install. Any info on setbacks or just a quick DIY in parts I'm going to need

I would get the biggest ones you can afford for the most gains. You will need cam shaft seals and I would also upgrade to adj. cam gears (I highly recommend them) at the same time. That way you don't have to redo the timing twice if you decide later on down the road. Also you will need to get them dyno tuned in order to feel the benefits of the cam gears. I had the stock cams dyno tuned and I gain power everywhere. Really livened the motor up. I have yet to get the cams I have now dyno tuned but I imagine I will get the same results. I'm currently running a Ford Racing stg. 2 intake cam and a Crower stg.1 exhaust cam. The only reason why I'm running two different kinds of cams is because I bought one cam at a time used due to financial reasons. They popped up on the BST forum so I scooped them up.

Here is the How to for the cams HERE

Here is the cam gear how to right HERE

I want to say that Comp Cams are the go to cams that one of our tuners highly recommends. They have great drivability and fantastic top end power.

Oh and also if you haven't gotten a tune from a tuner I highly recommend that as well. I gained so much low end power from the tune and not to mention the huge increase in driveability that came with it.

I'm interested in getting my stock motor tuned. If I don't have SCT or a tuner, how do they go about changing the stock ECU?

The ECU stays the same.

K cuz the tuning place asked if theres a port for the PCM and I wasnt sure. Then they asked if I was familiar with diablo sport, but I thought that was only for SVT's. I'll have to do some research i suppose. Thanks for the input.

Hey, new to this forum but I'am doing a cam install on a 2.0 zetec and was looking for some info. Sleepyboy I was lookng at your links and that torque pattern just doesn't seem right,is that correct???you just tighten them in a straight line? am I missing something? It goes against everything that i was shown but i never torqued a cam that was having valve spring pressure on it so maybe there is a different way???Any help or feedback would be great. Thanks

How much does it take to buy performance cams, install, and tune?

I always wanted a higher performance came for my 2.0L zetec. It's just a normal 2002 zx3. How much would every thing cost?

Magus2727 09-30-2012 10:40 PM

do it your self?

$30 for TDC & Cam Tool
$200 adjustable CAM gears (New, less if used)
$400 for Cams
$250 for new valve springs
$100 For head work (to grind down possible interference problems with new cams)
$400 NA Tune from Tom ( I think that's what he charges)

I don't see what your talking about. Your right about making sure there is no spring pressure on the caps your tightening. The instructions look good to me. No one's ever said anything like this before? [dunno]

Depends on the cams you get. Some can use the stock springs. I believe anything below .381 lift can be used with the stock springs though it is recommended to get better springs if you plan on sustained high rpm as the stock ones will wear out over time. So like Magus posted it could cost this much or as little as just the cams themselves and a little assembly lube. All depends. I'm cammed for less than 300 bucks. Look for deals in the Buy Sell area.
