Class Questions?

So i ran my first AX Today and within 4 runs dropped my time over 4 seconds. I was running NS(Novice Street) class and come in 4th out of 15(To heavily modified M3 and S2000, and then close behind RSX Type S. So im pretty happy about that, the guy in the Type S had ran 3 or 4 events before and beat me by 3 tenths. On my fastest Run I ran 45.4 compared to a porsche 911 at 44.8 and another at 45.5. YESSSS... I felt though i was held up a lot with the lack of LSD(keep in mind i still have a lot of room for improvement in driving skill) Now if i have a cat delete and 4-1 headers automatically im Street Prepared right? So DSP? Whereas with shorties and cat in Street touring? If this is so im considering an LSD because its allowed in Prepared. But if i can retain touring what does this mean-"Limited Slip Differentials
STC, STS, STF No limited slip differentials are permitted except for factory standard viscous coupler type units.
STX, STU, STR Only standard (as defined in Section 12.4) limited slip differentials (LSD) are allowed on AWD vehicles. For AWD vehicles that did not come with any type of limited slip differential (including center differential or transfer case), a single aftermarket LSD may be added. 2WD vehicles may use any LSD unit." Can someone Explain what these STC,STS/STX ect mean and where my focus would fall? Am i allowed to use LSD in touring since theres a factory option?

You know what? I just realized they arent going to really know or care unless im doing nationals.. in which case im pretty sure id fall into prepared.. No cat.. Race headers... But still good to know for sure.. I cant find a breakdown of class examples.. theres so many sub classes... :/

Where was this at? Was it in Daytona? I would have loved to go

It was in Geneva, South of orlando, about an hour from daytona. I was the only focus there :/. I actually had a driving instructor drive my focus once so i could get a baseline where i should be running and it felt good to hear him say "Oh man i love these things they are so much fun" while driving lol

I'm not really sure how the set up is on a regular zetec but on the SVT if i replace my cat with a high-flow cat it moves me into STX.
what did you replace your cat with? do you have a high-flow? ORP?

this means i could run a high-flow cat in STX and also add a LSD.
IMO the Focus can't hang with the BMW's or WRX's in STX.

The Focus goes to FSP rather than DSP.

Edit: they may not know or care, but you're cheating yourself by not following the rules.. believe it or not, the PAX factor and car classes are pretty darn accurate and help level the playing field.

No cat at all, just resonator and muffler... I looked up the price for an LSD and itll be probably close to 2 grand total to put one in, i dont have that kind of cheese to spend haha.. But i could definitely feel my inside spinning alot... :/...

darossi3 08-19-2012 11:57 PM

also whats the difference between FSP and DSP? I really dont know what alot of the classes mean.. My car stock is HS, and i know the SP is street prepared but i dont know what the first letters are.. i cant find any specific info it...

[:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]Oh i see now.. SVT is DSP and Normal Focus is FSP.. FSP is a slower class then... Well theres noone that ran FSP today :/ Kinda sucks when theres no competition to gauge yourself against...

the SVT was moved out of DSP and into FSP with the other Foci. I believe it was moved just before the 2012 season.
You're right, the Focus is in H-stock but there is not an HSP class, so it gets bumped to FSP.
Normally you take the Stock class (AS, BS, CS, DS, ES, FS, GS, and HS) and add a P to the end to get your SP class, but some cars are just whacky.

Edit: 2k for an LSD??? that seems way over priced.. is that with labor included?? A Torsen LSD should only cost 650-850.

and LSD bumps you to FSP

i cant remember what cat is legal in ST... classes, assuming you had a legal, the foci are in STF. a focus can never be in STX or STC, or STU. All the street tire classes are car specific. ie, a car only fits in one class.
