Third Brake Light Tinting (ZX5)

Hey guys, I just joined this forum a day ago and it has helped me out a ton so far and I just wanted to thank everyone..

Anyway, I just received a sheet of dark smoke tint film from rvinyl and I am going to use it to tint the third brake light on my ZX5. I am just wondering if anyone has any experience with using tint film on their third brake light and if you did do you have any advice for me. Thanks

Night shade from Advanced Auto is my favorite tint, and looks great. Just check out my pics

welcome to FF guy. another wisconsinite!

i'd say start by cleaning the surface very well.

then peel an inch or two of the backing off the film and lay it on the brake light (lined up correctly)
use a credit card to squegee the air bubbles out and slowly pull the backing away and squegeeing the bubbles out.

after that, use a sharp blade to smoothly cut around the edge of the light.

then cut out the piece with the spray nozzle. then install and enjoy.

Thanks for the advice. I will give it a try tonight..

Ya the only part I am worried about is the rear windshield nozzle and thats it. If I mess up, luckily I got a decent size sheet of tint to work with.

and if all else fails, I will try out that Nightshade stuff.

If you fail and you're going for a matte look, then VHT niteshade will do the trick. Rusteloeum Lense tint dries glossy and is also available in different colors.

rustoleum doesn't dry glossy. my buddy used it and it came out as flat as my vht.

I would use the Nite Shade. I used it on my taillights. And it looks pretty tough. Btw, it was plenty glossy.

as for the tint spray glossy-ness, i guess it all depends on how you use it. i spray 15-20" away. but if i'm not mistaken, the closer you spray, the glossier it will be.

Hey everyone, so I ordered the precut tail light tint for my car and it didn't work for me at all, it turned out pretty bad, the hardest part was getting the bigger air pockets out and when I tried to do that it would crease the tint..It was taking to long and I ruined the tint, so i just had professionals do it...

..but surprisingly, the easiest part of tinting the tail lights was the third brake light, it just took some patience and some precise cutting around the rear washer sprayer and when I finished I was really happy how it turned out.

(I will be posting pictures soon)
