Fact or Fake?

Is [scratch]using dish soap to wash your car harmful to the paint?
Will it create spots?

ViperThreat 08-02-2012 09:48 AM

Its not harmful per say in terms of destroying your paint, But it is more aggressive a soap than others, so it will go through wax faster. If you use it primarily, and never wax, then yes it can eventually damage your paint.

ok thanks!

if you are planning to give your car a fresh waxing, then using dish soap to wash the car to get the old wax off isnt a bad idea then.

I've never had good luck using dish soap to strip wax. For whatever reason my wax always remains after the dish soap wash.

A better way to remove old wax would be to do a 50/50 isopropyl alcohol to water wipedown.

Why use it when there are products for that very purpose and are 100% harmless to your paint.

lyonsroar 08-02-2012 01:39 PM

'cause everyone already has it at home...

i haven't. my friend's family have been using it for years apparently w/no issues. I was hesitant to wash my vehicle with it and opted not to. Jw

I heard it wasnt good for the clear coat....true or not,im not sure but i wouldnt recomend using it....auto wash soap isnt that expensive and can last awhile...just use that

is your exterior oily/greasy? then yes, use it. there are pretty good exterior wash-n-wax blends out there for pretty cheap.
