2000-2004 Rear Disc Brake Caliper Bracket ID

After finding out that Rear Disc Brake Conversion Kits were no longer available I decided to search for used parts.
Actually, I was surprised there are still some out there but I can tell you, it was not easy to find them.

I've been told and found that the one key part that is no longer in production is the bracket that goes between
the spindle and caliper, usually called the "Caliper Bracket." Steve at Tousley Ford had some good info on the
availability of the other parts and had very helpful information overall.

I located a set of SVT brackets with PN 2M5Z-2B582-AA, so I have the parts to put together my own set-up.

During the search I located another set of brackets, but my question is "What are they from?" since the guy who
sold them only said he thought they were off a Focus- but the price was right and I got them anyways.

Here's some pics:

inboard side of bracket, markings show "2383m" "Ford" "CN 8"

I understand that there are at least 2 sizes of rear discs, 260mm and 280mm that were available from Ford for
the 2000-2004 Focus.

Anybody know what these brackets came off of?

*Also, I want to mention that Mazda had a "very similar" rear disc set-up and came standard with rear discs, so there
are many more available IF they interchange.

Thanks in advance,
George

Ok, I think I am getting somewhere on this, I just got my SVT rear brakes today and you can see the difference
in the brackets:
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d5...l/IMGP0352.jpg

You can see the main difference is the location of the two bolt holes that attach the bracket to the spindle.
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d5...l/IMGP0350.jpg

On the SVT brackets the bolt holes are down at the corners of the "U" shape, compared to the other bracket,
where the holes are further up. After a lot of measuring the brackets are otherwise the same, the holes just
push the bracket about 10mm further out (which makes sense since the brake rotors on the SVT are 280mm
and 260mm on the regular models with rear discs.

Talking to Steve at Tousley, I found there are two basic rear discs available from Ford for the Focus, 280mm and 260mm.
Looks like I will be selling my 260mm brackets and calipers in the For Sale section...
...learned a lot, hope this is useful to somebody...

Thou's are the bracket's that I could use. Where do you come up w/ thou? Great find. And did you figure out if that bracket is the same dimention's as the Mazda3, since they have 280mm rear rotor's stock. Thanx for your info on this. Pretty stupid on Ford's part to no produce that bracket any more.

I got both the 260mm and 280mm calipers and brakes from wrecking/reconditioning yards. It was a pretty hard search though.
The price wasn't cheap either the 260 were 50 bucks each, and could use rebuilding, the 280s were 150 each but all ready to install.

I might sell the 260s just got to clean them up in my blast cabinet first.

The Mazda3 is different from what I could see but maybe the entire spindle/caliper/hub/rotor could be used from the 3. The spindle pattern
looked alike.

Easiest to just locate some Ford Focus brackets, the yards are starting to
know that Ford stopped making
them as their prices were double what they were 2 months ago. Not sure why
Ford would do that, I once read that automakers were obligated by law to make
parts for 15 years after a car Model was discontinued...?

Hope this helps somebody,
George

$150.00 ea. for the SVT caliper bracket's= WOW! Massive hi-way robbery, huh. I just want a price for a pair, no 5 pair, just 1 pair. hah! wow.
Thanx for your input George.

Hey Felixthecat,

I found both cheaper and more expensive. The cheapest was 50 bucks for 260mm,
but need a rebuild I think.
There are still 280mm caliper/bracket assemblies for sale, but the prices seem to be
going up:

This is the cheapest SVT one I found:

*Note the positions of the bracket holes for 280mm above rather than 260mm below:

(Links won't last long the prices for these rebuilt SVT calipers with brackets were
147, 122, 122, shipped)

And yes, those prices are for each!!!

Good luck with the searching!
George

Yeah, you stumbled upon something that I've found out (rather inconveniently) in the past couple days. lol

There were 2 basics types of the rear calipers as found on the Focus - which you have illustrated nicely.

The SVT style ones have those lower bolt holes to clear the larger rotors.

The other calipers you have shown are found on the regular Focus' from 00-07 that came with the AdvanceTrac option (rear discs) as well as on the Focus ST sedan

I upgraded my brakes w/ TCE's brackets & Wilwood 11.75'' rotors. The stock 10'' brackets work better w/ these brackets than the svt ones=you'd need to grind a little off the svt brackets.

Just an update on aftermarket status if anyone is interested:

Autozone and Advance do not specify separate part numbers between SVT and non SVT rear calipers. And the ones the system says fit the SVT do not because that lower braket is incorrect.

NAPA DOES specify a separate part number for the SVT calipers and they DO have the correct brackets. I just picked up a pair this morning and they are both re-manufactured Lucas calipers (who supplied the OEM Ford ones) and the lower brackets are both stamped with the 'FORD' tool mark.

Go NAPA!

SD_ZTW, thanks for the great info on how to tell the brackets apart. Now I know exactly what to look for.

slipster17, thank you as well. I'll be heading to NAPA tomorrow first thing. I never would have guessed I could just go buy the stuff, SVT rears always show up on the forums when I'm broke lol.
