2012 Focus - Stock Wheel weight.
I'm going to upgrade my wheels at some point, but only to get more mpg mainly and then for the looks. Does anyone know the following:
16" Stock wheel weight 16" Sport package wheel weight 17" painted black wheels 17" titanium wheels? |
I was searching once for the same info. I have the painted pocket 17s and they are HEAVY! I love the wheels, but a weight reduction would be my primary reason for springing for new wheels.
|
The stock wheels are made to last. Ford does not want any warranty issues of bent wheels or such.
So the stock alloy wheels are strong. and thus heavy. I would be worried about road damage to lighter wheels. Only Forged wheels are light and strong. But then they are really expensive. |
i want know how much the 16"painted pocket wheels weigh
|
I thought I saw at one point on Ford Parts (or some similar site) that the 16" SE Sport wheels were 22 pounds each and the 17" SE Appearance wheels (2013 201A package) were 24 pounds each. I have no idea if this is accurate and I can't find it again (yet) to verify.
I also am not sure what the weight difference between a 215/55/R16 vs a 215/50/R17 tire is? |
This is something I've been wondering about for a while so I know my starting point. I as well thought I had seen the weights listed on the ford site somewhere at some time. I feel like I saw my slotted 5 spoke 16"s were 22.

that sounds good the new ones im lookin at are 20lbs ea.
I wanted them to be the same or less. |

Does anyone know the true weight of the 17" SEL Wheels?
Anybody know the true weight (not estimated weight) of these wheels?

Car and Driver did a study on this. They showed predictably that increasing wheel diameters on the same car resulted in increasingly slower accelerations and lower fuel economy. But reducing the wheel/tire weight by 5 lbs (e.g. 18in to 16in) increased acceleration by 0.2 seconds and fuel economy by 1 mpg (4.5%). Not really a great tradeoff for giving up some handling ability. |
