Easiest way to install push button start?

Wouldn't the easiest and most hassle-free way of installing a push button start system be taking the wire that goes from the ignition switch to the starter and putting a button of some kind in between them?

You'd still need your keys and all of that good stuff, but would this not work?

Let me know what you think asap.

i dont think this would work because ignition is a momentary switch and you would have to hold your key in ignition mode or start and not just on. you would also have to push your push button switch while you hold your key in start.

someone correct me if i am wrong but i think that answers that question.

this is a guess but i think you might have to rewire ignition so it does not work with the key in ignition only. when it is in the "on" position power is supplied to all of the switched power accessories and whatnot and if you had a momentary switch or button installed in place of ignition the car would start when you push it...

so long story short i think you would have to cut the ignition wire and hook it up to a momentary switch instead of ignition>button>start like you said.

it would go from stock (key turned to on>power is supplied>key turned to ignition> start car)
to this (key turned to on>power is supplied>push button instead of turning key to ignition>start car)

i could make a wire diagram but i dont really want to sorry. and also this is just based on my knowledge of switches and electricity from looking around online and stuff, i dont have a push button start but that was my best guess, hope it helps

Yeah, I see what you're saying.
I didn't think about that at first.

So it'd be more like, tap into a live 12 volt wire (more than likely the one running to the ignition switch as well), run it to the switch, then tap into or cut the wire that goes from the ignition to the starter and run that to the button?

Thanks for the reply though.

you can do this! a guy did it in his 05 (maybe 07?) by wiring the push button in place of the cigarette lighter, came out real clean, try to search for it

i should also add all he bought was a push button start off ebay for a few bucks and then the general wiring connectors you'd need, so maybe 10 bucks

Haha. I'm gonna do it with in the next couple weeks. I gotta get my funds back up after spending all my money on my LEDs for the car.

The only problem with the lighter thing is, I actually use mine for my phone charger. So, I was thinking about rigging it up so the button was in my ash tray, and when you pull the ash tray out the button pops up [thumb]

We'll see how it goes. [:)]

Lmao. I wish it was that easy, $25 for a button is easier than $20k for a car with a button in it.

Right under the steering column, behind the knee panel, tap your button into the solid red and the grey/black stripe wire.

You could do what I did. Take the ignition switch completely out canceling out the use of the key you have to remove it so your steering wheel doesn't lock up. Run all your accessories to a toggle switch and run the ignition wire off a push button or straight from the starter solenoid to the push button. This way you can turn all your accessories on if you need just that. You can not wire them all together including the ignition cable because it will constantly try to start your car so you will be grinding out your starter. It is a pretty simple process you just have to find out what wires do what and run your new power and ground for the toggle and your all set.
