How To: 00-04 Antenna Base Replacement (Part Number: XS8Z-18919-AA)
I realize there is already a how-to on this but I was already doing it and figured I would try to take some better pictures for those who need it. Also, thanks to my girlfriend for her hands in the pictures.
Things you need: Phillips Screwdriver T25 Torx Bit Screwdriver Flat Head Screwdriver Replacement Antenna Base (Part Number: XS8Z-18919-AA) Car cleaner (optional) Car wax (optional) Steps: Step 1 Get together all the supplies you need. The car cleaner and wax is up to you if you want to get the part of the car underneath the base cleaned up and protected. Step 2 http://i.imgur.com/O0qI0l.jpg Insert your flat head screwdriver into the side of the overhead light closet to the window. There's a little grove to put it in. Just use your screwdriver and ease that side out. From there, just grab the overhead light with your hand and get it the rest of the way out. Step 3 http://i.imgur.com/ET1IHl.jpg This is what you should have at this point. Just unplug the two wires that are attached. Step 4 http://i.imgur.com/DitQFl.jpg Use your phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws that are shown above. This will allow you to remove the plastic border of the overhead light area. Once removed there is a metal bar in there that can be pushed aside if needed. Step 5 http://i.imgur.com/UCXVQl.jpg Use your T25 Torx Bit Screwdriver and remove the screw shown above when attaches the antenna base to the car/ antenna cable. There is a washer on the screw so be careful when removing as you need that. Here's a picture of it. Step 6 http://i.imgur.com/jnwN2l.jpg Now just pull of the old antenna base and this is what you should get. Step 7(optional) http://i.imgur.com/mg4WEl.jpg Clean the area with your car cleaner and then put a coat of wax on the area. Step 8 http://i.imgur.com/ghHsAl.jpg Place the new antenna base in the holes and get it lined up. Screw the T25 screw and washer back in while making sure the antenna cable gets attached. Step 9 Reassemble it in reverse order. |
Worked like a Charm. Thank you for this thread

P.S. I changed the title to 00-07 but it isn't showing up in the forum as such. Could a mod help me out? |

Good thing this was bumped, or I might have missed it. I recently had a short antenna on my Focus, and while clearing some snow off of it this winter, it broke off. I didn't really care or think about it until recently, as I never use the radio anyway, and I actually like the look of no antenna. Still, after looking at it, I discovered that the bolt on the base is actually broken, and that I'm going to need a new base.
Thanks for this writeup. |

Has anyone found a good quality aftermarket antenna mast that is sturdy (i.e. will not break within a year) and that gets good reception? Or should I stick with OEM for around $40?
