valve clearance problems
Ok guys i bought a 2003 svt with a blown head gasket and i took the head off and had the head milled and new valve seats installed. After i put it all back together i found the valve clearance's were off. Ive figured out what size tappets i need but i cant figure out where to get them. I work as a tech at a ford dealer but cant get them threw ford. Do you guys know any after market companys that make them???? Any help would be great

dude your fine, put a thicker mls head gasket in...use the stock buckets and at least this way you don't have to worry about finding a new size....cfm sells them...

[facepalm] Try reading his post and not just the title next time. Also remember that the SVT tappers/buckets are different that the standard zetec tappets/buckets. Curious what your clearances were and if you tried playing musical buckets? and dug this up --> http://forums.focaljet.com/zetec-tun...ce-help-2.html |
hey yea ive played musical buckets and got a couple to fit correctly but now im looking for 5 buckets that i cant find

Have you installed the head yet? If not, and it always is a great idea to set valve clearances on the head before installing it, you can pull the cams and touch the head of the valve to reduce it a bit. I'm assuming your clearances are tight, yes? If loose, the seat needs sunk a bit to bring the valve up. Have you talked to the machine shop about this problem? My favorite guys here in town will work with me if I run into something like this. I tell them which valve needs to come up or down and how much and they make it so. Might be worth a call.....

I'd be a little worried about grinding off any surface hardness on the valve stems...although with new/machined seats, he's likely tight all the way across, which of course, means grinding won't help. :)

I'm running into the same issue with my 02 zx3, I have a little pitting in my exhaust valve face area, so I took it to my local performance shop to have the valves ground and then realized if I did this id need new buckets or lifters whatever you like to call it, has any one found any new info on this I've found these pt numbers but still haven't found who sells them???

No one sells them any more , your machine shop should be able to set clearances , if the valve job was done properly they all should be to tight , by checking the clearances then cutting the valve stem you can set the clearances to the buckets
This why I charge 200.00 to set clearances , it is very time consuming Tom |
Ok I feared this but with my machining experence I shoul have no problem with this I was just hoping not to remove the surface hardness from the valve but if this is how we must do it then ill give it a try,
Thanks by the way |
