beat up on a Honda yesterday

Before any of you fly off of the handle about street racing, I was at a track.[neener]
There was this guy there w/ a Civic hatch. He had the carbon hood and all the right "go fast look" pieces. It looked like he could actually be a serious runner but it turns out he was a poser deluxe![rofl] He was in the staging lanes talking about his "fully built" 4 cyl and was asking my brother what was done to the Focus. He was frothing at the mouth to get a piece of me. My brother stepped aside so we could run (he was next in line and technically would have run the Honda). So, we lined up and when that tree went green that was the last I saw of him. I 60'ed bad but he was plain pathetic. I could hear the sound of angry bumble bees behind me but they kept getting fainter. I had him by .3 at the 1/8 (it was only an 1/8 mile track) and I was still pulling away (I ET'd and MPH'd better than him).[woot] In a quarter I would have had him by 1/2 sec for sure.[rofl]

My times were pretty pathetic but I got new tires and they just aren't a sticky as my last set. I was having a lot of trouble getting a good 60' and it would spin and then wheel hop pretty bad going into 2nd. It was so packed there I didn't get enough runs to figure out the "sweet spot" w/ the new tires (I only got 3 passes) but I did lay the smack down on a Honda so I still left happy.[8D] Well worth the $15 entry fee.

nice ! damn honda's. lol

whats your 60" foot? and what was your final 1/8th time?

MegaTBone 05-15-2010 10:53 AM

I cant stand how people hype up their car and when it comes down to it they cant back themselves up. I am glad you put him in his place. Maybe that guy will learn that he needs to be able to run his car like he can talk.

im gonna take a wild guess at your 1/8th mile time and i wanna know just how close i am...

60ft 2.45
1/8 10.205
mph 67

how close is that?

01slo-cus 05-15-2010 04:11 PM

Pretty close indeed.
60'-2.41
1/8-10.50
mph-67.5

Like I said, my 60' sucked and as such my times were pretty miserable. I could cut 2.30's on my old tires and I think 2.2's were possible w/ more practice. Obviously w/ my MPH I should be running faster. These new tires just don't stick that well and that massive spin going into 2nd really killed my ET's. Oh well, it was still fun.[headbang]

What's really cool is my 165,000mi clutch held up just fine. Never a hint of slipping (it'll still bark them going into 3rd sometimes). These cars may not be fast but durability is definitely a strong suit.

limited slip is your friend if you want to cut good 60ft times. its also your best friend in rain, in snow, on ice, and in the mud on the side of the road lol. and in sharp corners under heavy throttle. i regularly cut 2.0 60ft times on 18x7.5 street tires slipping the clutch as much as possible off the line. ive cut a few 1.9s but that was launching way harder than i meant to and its really rough on the car. that and lower is where most people start breaking axles, transmission mounts, transmission cases, etc. on factory wheels and tires its really tough to do better than a 2.1 even with limited slip. well i always run crappy tires on the factory wheels but still. thats not bad at all man!

I can attest to the breaking parts category. The weak link in our drive train is the diff. Most foci run about the same times. Mostly. I forgot what I run in the 1/8th mi. I'll have to check when I get home. I love comparing times to other foci don't ya'll?

only if mine is faster.[hihi] j/k

I'm building my Mustang for going fast, the Focus is just cheap transportation. I have to have something to run at the track though.

3 gear peel out with only 1 tire spinning at around 90mph and the other dead still. yep the diff gave me the finger that night but im sure me doing this didnt help.
