VTEC vs SVTF variable valve timing
 
What's the difference between the vtec and the variable valve timing on the svtf? [?|]

umm basically nothing they both do the same thing, lots of ppl think that vtec gives u more power and all that bs but it was really made to improve gas mileage which it does a lot, ford just has to call it something else just like all the companies lets see u got vtech zetech vspec all sorts of crap like that.

i thought the svt had variable CAM timing??? anyways, the vtec in hondas is basically where the valvetrain switches between camshaft lobes and keeps the valves open for a longer duration, with more overlap. there IS an increase in horsepower (go look at an rsx-s dyno sheet and you will see a considerable jump in horses). i believe the svt either advances or retards the timing depending on the driving conditions, never changing cam lobes, like honda/acura.

found a link, looks like they copied their info from some propeganda from ford... dunno how acurate it is though. Looks like it's got the variable exahust cam timing from the reg zetec + intake cam timing for the svt.

^^ That link is correct, the SVT engine has variable cam timing on the intake camshaft. That is all. Why I dunno but I would guess emissions or for fine tuning more than any real performance gains. AFAIK (and I could be wrong, its been known to happen) Ford doesn't currently offer any Honda VTEC-like system on their engines. [:D]

please research before you post. Theres a big difference between the two. Ever been in an H22 hatch with all the bolt-ons? No? Ride in one of those and tell me Vtec doesnt give you more power after the crossover.

Vtec (no H) = Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Lift Control
Zetech = thats just the name of the engine itself

I have noticed people getting the variable rate intake systems, once TM'd as VRIS common on Ford adapted powerplants (including Zetec & SVTF) since the auto-alliance with Mazda, confused with the VTEC system. Totally different systems with similiar names.

[werd] It seems like all the manufacturers are adapting variable camshaft/variable valve timing. Mitsubishi has their Mivec, Toyota has the VVT-i, Nissan, etc.
