Hesitation/Loss of Power

I have a Focus 1.4 CL, 2001, approximatley 110,000 miles on the clock. When the car is started from cold there is no problem for 4 to 5 minutes. It then begins to hesitate on acceleration and feels like it has lost some of it's power. I have had the coil pack, ht leads, plugs, battery, air filter and fuel filter renewed. None have solved the problem. I have had it hooked up to a code reader which reported no abnormalities. The engine management light is not on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's costing me a fortune. Thanks Chris.

change ur pre-cat O2 sensor.. its probably knackered.. then disconinect the battery for 15 minutes or so and then drive around to allow the ECU to relearn its fueling parameters.

hope that helps,

matt

ooo and clean ur MAF sensor.. seeing u have 110k on the clock, its probably dirty.. get some electronic parts cleaner (spray) and spray the filament inside the MAF lightly and leave to dry.. then do the same as before, disconnect battery for 15 and then take it for a drive to let it relearn. :)

sounds like your o2 sensor is out. b/c the engine ignores the o2's input until the engine is warm, just like you were saying.

another thing is sometimes the o2 sensor wont let you know anything is wrong with it, if you know what i mean. in other words no CEL

hope i helped some

Thank you all for your help. I will have the O2 sensor replaced and clean the MAF sensor next. Once again, thanks for your time. Regards Chris.

Hello again guys. I have changed the O2 sensor. Looked all over for the MAF sensor but there doesn't appear to be one on my model. Just has a blank piece of pipe on the inlet manifold. Anyway the problem is still there. Any more suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Chris.

very odd that you dont have a maf sensor. check the entire intake tube from the throttle body all the way to the end of the tube. you should have one

lindleypoolman 02-24-2009 05:58 AM

Have checked the entire length of the intake and still couldn't find it, so I took it to a mechanic. He said that some models do not have them. Help on the next step of troubleshooting would be welcome please? I'm determined to crack it, no matter the cost. Thanks again for your reply.

go get a scan tool and give us some live data readings on fuel trims, o2 sensors, air intake temp and airflow.. :)

some cars use speed density systems instead of using a mass airflow sensor, i just didnt know that some foci have that setup.
