PHOTOS: Dramatic Porsche GT3 Wreck at Summit Point

Normally, I do not like to post images of cars being squished, but the photography was just AMAZING. Talk about timing.

Click PCA event at Summit Point and then GT3 crash.

I would post a direct link, but the web site won't let me and the images are copyrighted.

Both driver and instructor were not injured.

The crash took place on the turn 4-5 complex at Summit Point Main. This section of the track, known as "the chute", is a down hill off camber run where speeds approach 110 MPH - even in lower HP cars.

Crash took place at the PCA event 2 weeks ago.

Now that is a good way to destroy a perfect car. Reminds me of my crash I had 30 yrs ago with my 911 turbo, car got wrecked, I got hurt but overall it saved me from worse.

I had heard about that Accident, I was there the Monday after that. I thought the driver was a fairly competent driver and was actually scheduled to instruct at the event I was at, but I though someone also said that he had just gotten the car back form being repaired.

The class room theme for the two days was no lifting in 4

That must be the 5th gt3 to go down this year alone. I'm done riding in those cars unless they have a full cage, seat and harness. My last ride was in a 996TT at daytona and it wasn't good.

Yep. Competent driver AND a PCA instructor. I forget his name, but someone said that he is semi pro.

Not sure about the car just coming back from repairs.

BADIDEA -

I am with you. Every single one I've ever driven or ridden in is a scary experience. Still, in the hands of someone who knows 911's, they are deadly quick. However, I am comfortable to admire at a distance... [thumb]
