A SVT Owner, Finally!!

I have been shopping for awhile and finally made the plunge. It's a Sonic Blue '04 loaded with everything except the EAP, with 45K on the clock. It looks just like the one at the top right corner of this page. This forum was very helpful during my search. In fact, I made contact with the former owner through this site!

Now that I have it, I need to make it mine! That means making it better, I hope. What I would like to know, considering the biggest bang for the buck, what would be the TOP 5 changes to make? Like, do I get a K&N filter for the stock air box, or take the air box out? What tires to get? I am in Michigan so I will get all season tires. The BFG g-force SS/AS looks pretty good, what do you think? Or do I stay stock? Any suggestions? Yes, I have already ruled out the Turbo and NO2.
Thanks for reading,
Dan

[welcome] [ffrocks] i got the k&n filter and those bfg, g force all season, they were great during the winter. chicago got a buncha snow so it put them to the test. Sounds like a pretty nice svt

Congrats on the new car and [welcome] to the boards!

Intakes make the car sound a ton better, maybe add a little hp depending on what you get. I would stay away from short rams though...the heat soak mixed with the low end bog = suck. AEM, PiperCross, Volant....or just drop an ITG panel in the stock airbox, remove the resonator from the side of the box and call it good.

You will probably want the VF rear engine mount to get rid of the loud bang/klunk when going hard into 2nd. Hi-Flow cats are nice, short throw shifter is for sure a good thing (that shifter is TALL), and beyond that, I would get a tune for the car as well. Helps smooth things out a bit and the car runs a bit nicer.

As for tires, you have a lot of options. I run all seasons out here in CO during the warmer months and have found the Falken 912's to be a nicely priced and well performing tire for the car. If you do a lot of winter driving, save up some pennies and try to pick up a set of used 16's from here...put dedicated winter tires on them, it makes snow driving so much nicer.

Njoy the new ride! They are a blast to drive and sexy to boot!

I run the BFgoodrich g-force KDW's in the summer and the Dunlop winter sport M3's for winter, if you can do it, its best to run a summer high performance and a stickly winter tire and you will get the full benefit out of both...

Top mods for your buck
tom's tune
ORP
K&N drop in
shortshift (unless you like the stock trucker shifter)
tranny mount
upgraded clutch and flywheel, might as well wait since the OEM clutch doesn't last too long on the SVT (always exceptions to this rule)

Thanks for the responses!!!

I am lucky, the clutch has already been replaced!! One of the things I learned from this site was to ask about the clutch...I even have the paperwork.

Ok, newbe question, what is the "drop in" filter. Is that simply replacing the stock filter with the K&N, which by the way I have done to all my cars, motorcycles and Karts.

Yeah, that's all it is...

The last few mods that i've done that i absolutely loved were the Rear Mount (VF), Short shifter (FRPP) and Tom's tune. All 3 changed the feel of the car for the best. I also have an SRI and while i do like it it is something that doesn't give you such a drastic feel change as some other mods.

congrats on the SVT.... welcome to the family... i have a ITG drop in filter from focussport, it works great.... do know about the air box, just read some more about it, you might just want to keep it... again... congrats!!!!!... Brotheeer...

OK. Since it looks like the tires will be the first priority, I will have to wait for the "tune." The K and N and short shifter are the next things on my list. I know everybody has an opinion, but what shifter is the best?
