open the orange clip, have someone center the shifter in the car, and pop the clip back into place

What he said. It actually might feel better than before if it hadn't been adjusted in awhile or ever. BTW, punctuation is your friend [thumb]

Adjusting the Cables

Adjusting the linkage is easy:
1. Put the shifter in neutral
2. Carefully pop/pry up the orange lock on the back of the cable end
3. Wiggle the shifter around trying to find the best center position - don't shift into a gear
4. Push in the orange lock on the back of the cable end
Take it out for a test drive and see how all the gear gates feel.
Adjust if necessary again (likely won't need to).
Sometimes the cable housings come out of the body attachment clips (under the heat shielding in the 'tunnel') and can flop around a bit ... requiring a cable adjustment.
Some early-build SVTs had the MTX-style cable ends (as shown in the Focushacks article).
Newer builds have a cable end where the lock pops out instead of in (as shown in my earlier posted pic).

And, here's his other post with a pic:

ok so i followed those steps its in a good position feels really good however i can not pop up the orange piece all the way any way to do that.

jmkreege 02-18-2008 07:06 PM

slide the blade of a screwdriver between the orange lip and black housing and twist

were your gates just loose? and was it hard to get it into reverse?

bobbin2ska18 10-26-2008 12:24 AM

gates werent loose the linkage came off so i had my buddy center it and popped it back on reverse was teh same this happened a while ago but if i remember my gears were liek this
1 4 6
R
2 3 5
it was sumthin weird but re adjusted it and feels great

Hmm...interesting, I may just have to try this...

defendorange 11-01-2008 10:38 AM

well i tried to adjust that orange thing, and doesn't seem to help me get my reverse gear back. the gates are working decent, but i guess i adjusted the orange clip wrong, which made it hard to shift into 5 and 6... i'm wondering what else it could be. It will cold in reverse off a cold start, sometimes, but after the engine has been going, it won't go into reverse...
