Thermostat Housing
So i got to spend my day replacing my thermostat housing. The o-ring that was in the housing was blown apart and the housing was mising a chunk of the interior that surrounds the o-ring. At least i knew i was right when I replaced it b/c of leaking coolant (a small stream while running). All in all, i got put back about 50 bucks for housing, another o-ring (just to be safe), and coolant.
Anyone else had to replace their housing? |
Yeah I have had mine go on my 2001 also..... cost me alot more as I took it to the garage, happenned in winter I believe and Canadian winters are damn cold, way to cold for a DIY job.
There is a thread in the SVT section on this also, very current as of this week actually talking about people with the same problem. I also added a HOW TO into the archive a couple days ago explaining with pics how to do the o ring replacement. |
Very Common! I'm having to do it myself. Where did you get the housing, btw. I checked with Auto Zone & Advance Auto Parts. Both places said they couldn't order it. Also, Here's a pic of mine that I just took.

the housings are dealer specific. carquest would be the best place other than the stealerships. i believe the SVT's cost around $69. ive replaced the thermostat in mine. but i think ill be getting another housing to place my coolant temp sending unit actually in there instead in the hose. and to replace all o-rings.
ps, change your coolant! that looks nasty! |
I got mine at a local ford dealership. The part was like $50 something but i got a discount b/c my grandpa worked at ford his whole life.
|
Thanks, I bought it from Ford. They were the only place that had it on hand. Everyone else could get it, but it would take a couple weeks, lol.
And, yes, scrammer, I did flush the coolant and replaced it. I doubt the coolant had ever been changed b/c from the looks of it the previous owner didn't know where to add coolant much less how to flush it, lol. |

^^^do not buy that thermostat from CFM. that is the exact Motorad thermostat you can purchase at the local parts store for less than 10 bux. somewhere on here i have parts numbers listed. but i cant find it right now. just ask for zetec 180 thermostat. they dont have a listing for our Foci. it says that its a dealer part.
|
Someone @ CFM has lost their mind. $17 for a thermostat, lol. It's not even gold plated. A high quality thermostat shouldn't cost more than $12 @ a local parts store (if even that much. mine cost $7.99).
