New Guy...

So just stumbled across this Area of the forum... I am a degreed photographer in Fort Worth looking for work so I can avoid a repo on my new 2012 Focus... Anybody have any pointers on where to look, or have an idea of how I can grow my freelance business to the point I don't need to work for another company or have to find another job waiting tables or working retail? Thanks in advance for feedback.

^^ Hey a FOFO TEXAN!!! YAY!!! LOL ... I use to live in Arlington.

When it comes to freelance, you just need to keep doing it and stay in the light of media.

- Put ads up in Facebook, a local church, bulletin boards, public areas.
- Keep updating your work with new work.
- Focus on what you really want to do and research that market. Learn the techniques that work, then when you have established a place among the market of your choice, then get a bit creative.

Being a freelancer in media, I have learned to do what works, then be creative.

Places to look ... well, you are just going to have to hit up places. If you don't have enough work, I recommend you find a good place to shadow. And not at a sears or other department store offering photography. You need to find someone who is fairly successful in the field. And ask if you may shadow or even shoot for free.

I had to start off shooting free and editing free in the beginning, but after years of pushing and pushing ... I finally achieved enough work, experience and a name for myself that I could kinda branch out. I am still working at pushing the branch ... but it's moving.

You just need to keep pushing. The beginning stages of freelancing is going to be tough, I mean real tough with out an income backup plan. Though you may not want to do retail or wait tables, it's best to just have that job as a net for fall back when gigs are scarce. Musicians do the same thing.

Good luck.
