I'm going to try and go to the rehearsel dinner with them so we can figure out times, positioning, and also get a feel for how the lighting will be (still debating on what kind of speedlite I should get for the 5dmkii).

And yep. I got the contract signed and notarized last night, as well as received payment in full. It covers most of the price of the mkii. I only have to come out of pocket a little bit, which is just fine for me. I'm super stoked to be getting the new camera. Dealing with two people on POTN and one from CL on a used body. all three of them or mid to low 40k shutter count. one comes with a battery grip as well. Just working them on slightly lowering the pricing. But I hope to have one in my hands this time next week.

Quick question for CF cards though. I'm currently using 32gb sandisk class 10 SD cards that have that |_| box with a 1 in it (supposed to be one of the faster SD cards out there). What are the equivalent in the CF cards? I don't want to have to worry about buffering when shooting video, or having lag when shooting rapid shots.

I use the SanDisk Extreme Cards. They are super fast. But, there are even faster cards called SanDisk Extreme Pro Cards. But I don't think you have to go that far. They are usually another 2x more on cost.

All of the wedding photogs I know that shoot here utilize the SD Extreme Cards.

Also, don't shoot in burst. Until you get to the KISS. Be a bit more mindful of your shots. You will have too many to edit if you do burst, plus fly through your actuations on the camera and overfill the buffer on the CF Card if you are shooting in RAW ... which I recommend of course.

Take the time to fix the shot and then take the photo. Take a few of one great angle that you like. Just to make sure you don't blur one of them.

Also, when you do the group photos, take 2-3. Sometimes, someone blinks in the group, and most brides get anal about wanting to make sure everyone's eyes are open.

Good luck. And nice to know your Photog GF is going to help you out. That's a huge relief off of one's shoulder.

A friend of mine shoots wedding exclusively, and she brings along her husband to help her. It's a great combo. And then pull me in sometimes to shoot the video for them.

I'm not a wedding person much, but I do help as a second shooter locally. More of a commercial shooter myself.

Well I ended up buying a 32gb extreme pro memory card, grip, hdmi cable, and a couple extra batteries on wednesday when I sent him the funds. Wasn't sure if the extreme would be enough to record HD video @ 30fps or not, so I just bit the bullet and forked out the extra few bucks for the faster card. Found a pretty good deal on ebay for one. I'll end up getting a regular extreme for a secondary card.

and I'm currently shooting in RAW + .jpg because I can't seem to figure out how to quickly "preview" the RAW shots on my computer. I can open up one .jpg file, then use the right and left arrows to skip to the next ones while choosing which shot to edit. In RAW, I'd have to open one in photoshop, view it, close it, and then open a different file. It's extremely tedious. Any tips on previewing RAW shots?

You should get Adobe Lightroom. Great way to organize your photos, go through them and when you need to edit in Photoshop, it's a quick button.

That's what I use. Extremely recommended.
