I use Photoshop CS4. I got it from a torrent, and it's pretty awesome. Easy to use once you figure it out. But then again, I think most PS's are generally the same.

If you don't want to spend the money that Photoshop is ... I would say look into Photoshop Elements.

Honestly, photoshop is very hard to beat for any other photo manipulation software out there, that's why all of the pros around the world use it. ... And alot of the Amateurs want it.

PS Elements, is a more consumer version, but still has alot of the great standard and useful tools that photoshop has.

Now if you are a student, you may be able to get regular Photoshop, for less than a $100. But if you still think that's a bit pricey, the PS Elements for student is also available for much much much less. I think like $50-60 bucks regular and $20-30 bucks student.

cool. thank you. i will look into the elements. the money not really matter. i just want to be sure if i spend it i get moneys worth. some times items cost more & people think that means better. to find out that they could have spent half the money to get same or more out of a item. so i ask the people that have tried them & know more than i. that way i may not make a mistake..lol

I too run Photoshop CS5 and I love it (I had CS3 and I recently upgraded). I have tried Paint.net and some other one but Photoshop is by far my favorite. There are plenty of tutorials online that will help you out with pretty much anything too so thats nice.

EDIT: I apparently have CS5 not CS4 haha.

Well if you can still find it. Since PS has been updated to CS5 now. They are taking off the shelves and hard to find anywhere.

I use CS5 and it's great. There are a few things that have changed, but nothing that you will be using to start off. Changes are pretty much clean running/Smooher speed on the newer Intel Machines (both Mac and PC) and advance tools for the advance users are easier to use.

But again I say, if you are going to learn on something to start ... Elements is a great starting point, then when you feel you are going beyond the abilities of elements jump into the full blown Photoshop.

Then there is also Photoshop Extended ... yup a third step from just Photoshop.

Adobe has the Digital Photo Manipulation game on lock and no one can touch them on it.

^don't forget content aware fill! That's new for CS5 isn't it?

I too got CS5 Extended off a torrent. I'll post the link to the clean torrent I used when I get home. FWIW if you are a student you get 80% (I think) off the list price of Photoshop.

You can find tutorials on anything Photoshop on google. Took me a good year to get where I am. I started out changing colors, tinting windows, dropping cars, etc. Easy stuff to start out with, then progressed towards more photographic interpretation.

EDIT:
PM me for a link for PS.
