An attempt at HDR

This is my first attempt at an HDR photo, Let me know what you think. The image (and the over and under exposed images which I did not post) was taken with my Nikon D90.

From the way you worded your reply you make it seem like you o ly took the one picture. So did you just take one? HDR's are done using multiple exposures to produce a final dynamic range greater than the sensor could achieve using only one exposure. You have to take 3+ exposures of the same scene with different exposure values. An overexposure, a "perfect" exposure, and an underexposure are smudged together to produce a single perfectly exposed scene. If you just make a single exposure look like an HDR it's called tone mapping. Tone mapping is not true HDR because you are not getting a greater dynamic range, you are still manipulating the same single picture.

I apologize if I misunderstood your message.

It was 3, I just didn't want to overcrowd the post with the over and under exposed shots.

looks great just lil under exposed in the middle section, but still looks good...

i used to rock a D90 back in the day as well...did u use the bracketing option on it or simply change the exposure youself?

also, what software did u use to merge them together?

Thanks

I used the bracketing option then I used Photomatix Pro to merge them.

Good HDR shot.

BTW lyonsroar, there are ways to get the HDR look with one photo.

I know. It's called tonemapping. It is not a true HDR though. You got the HDR look, but none of the extended dynamic range. You can't bring detail back into a blown out (overexposed or underexposed) area of a photo. Shooting in RAW you can bring a little bit back but no where near enough to create an HDR image. Most newbies to HDR even try to make three exposures out of one in Photoshop by adjusting the EV to +1 (save a copy) and -1 (save a copy) and then using those exposures to create an "HDR.". It just doesn't work.

@OP-- I haven't viewed that photo on my computers screen yet but from what I can see on my iPhone it looks good! Awesome sky!

Agreed....

Sometimes they do look good, but they still dont have the true HDR look to em...

I got a few HDRs that simply look amazing compared to single shot tonemapping!
