well what you buy is all going to depend on you, you are going to need a camera you can use and fill comfortable using along with it taking grate pictures

if your looking for just a basic digital camera that's small and compacket then you would be good with a camera from wal-mart, bestbuy ect. ect that's around 8-10 megapixel and they run around 120-200$

if your looking for a DSLR its one of the big ones that's a semi-pro - pro photographer starter camera i would suggest a Nikon, they make good stuff and stand behind there product and warrentys. A good starter one would be the D3000 or the D5000 only because they are VERY user friendly for first time users the only diffrence between the 3000 and the 5000 the 3000 does not have ''Live Veiw'' you have to look threw the viewfinder to take a picture, and they run lower megapixel the 5000 you can use the viewfinder or the lcd screen they run around 10-12 megapixel maybe even higher and run between 400-600$ depending on what you acutely get and get with it but i will say they take Fanomanal Pictures.

maybe if some members here own these they can shed some light on it also and others out there

I use a Nikon D40 for digital and Nikon N55 for film. Cheap, easy to use bodys so you can use the extra $ on some fantastic lenses.

I use a Nikon D80, Nikon D90, Nikon D700 (For Work) and a Canon 5D (For Work).

Since you are just looking for a good camera to play with ... that Canon Rebel is a great start. The Nikon Equivalent would be the D5000 or D60 or D40x.

Really ... for great photos ... it comes down to the "Glass" aka the lens. You want some great pictures of cars ... the pros use a 50mm 1.8, 35mm 1.8 or 85mm1.8 ...

I've seen these lenses on the Rebel ... and have GREAT Photos.

Welcome to the world of Photography ... IS GREAT.

I have the Nikon D90 and it kicks ass.

And congrats on the camera but I freaking hate rebels...not ragging on you or your buy but i just can't stand them. Good luck with future photography.
