Photographic Frustration

I don't get......I used to be able to take bad ass shots of Foci.....

I have since gone to photography school, and I have a great camera, but I can't photograph a car with shit!

Put a person in front of me and I'll get a great shot almost every time!....which is something I couldn't do before.....

I just did a photo shoot with a local Kona Owner and I got cool shots of him, and I even added some graphics in Adobe Illustrator and It turned out great!

But the photos of his car didn't come out at all like I planned!

Here is a the photo of him.....

And I'm too embarrased to post the photos of his car, they're that bad.

What am I doing wrong?

What time of day are you taking the pics? Obviously you know this since you went to photography school but within 30 minutes of sunrise and sunset is the most ideal time to take pics. Post some pics up here and I'm sure you'll get some responses.

Also, I belong to another forum for photography buffs called The Photo Forum. If you join over there and post some pics they know a LOT more than I do. Most of the people there are professionals, so they can tell you exactly what is wrong and are not dicks about it. Maybe your aperture open too long. I like shooting my car with a 50mm, but I've heard of people using anywhere from a 12-24 to a 70-200.

^^ then why bother with photography at all? Lol.

it seems you've shifted your "focus" (eh no other word to use) on to live subjects. Just get used to the fact that a car can sit in the same position forever.

Dont worry Im on painted stockers and an svt suspension kit so my car doesnt look super pretty either. Not to mention I only have three splash guards on the car because one almost fell off but I took it off before I lost it. Your cant be that bad looking.

Yeah you're not going to get any help on how to take better car pics without posting some pics....

Yeah ... some photos for some Constructive Criticism would help you.

Settings ... have you changed your settings on your camera??? If you still have your older photos you can see the DATA info on what you used for the shot. Also ... a lens could change the look as well. A better F-stop lens can grab more color and detail then a less expensive one ... and of course going with the Camera Brand as oppose to the Other brands also make a difference.
