yeah, me too. 10 years of web & multimedia design and development.
Before that I did off-set printing, bindery, silkscreening, custom vinyl and airbrushed surfboards.

Probably not what you want. I was a mechanical designer for Ford for 32 years in Heavy Truck.

hmmm...not at the moment. Things are pretty tight all around, but don't let it get you down. It will come back around. Just don't whore yourself out for less than what you are worth.

All I can offer is this:
  1. Make sure you have a clean and concise portfolio online. Don't get so carried away with design that useability goes out the window.
  2. Pay attention to cross-browser and accessibility. That is pretty huge these days.
  3. Validate your code on the w3c site. Make sure you are up on valid css and html
  4. BRANDING - make your resume look like your site and all that. Details are good.
  5. Don't give up. I was out of the trade for over a year when the "dot-bomb" hit (the internet bubble burst around 2000)
  6. DON'T DO IT FOR FREE. I know it's tempting just to fill your portfolio, but demand what your worth. By doing it cheap or free, you drive down everyones wages. If you want to fill your portfolio then make up your own stuff.

In my latest down time, I started teaching myself Linux. I bought a p4 with 1gb ram and made my own web server out of it. This way I can work on all my stuff here at the house and not have to work on a live server. Then when its done, I just migrate the whole site over in one wad. So, just keep learning and building your resume. Knowing some backend is a good thing.

wow guys, this is great! I didn't know there were so many people here. I was just wondering cause it'd be great to have people to talk to and show new stuff to and bounce ideas off of them. I created a group called designers of FF and I want you all to join AND subscribe (otherwise no one knows when it gets updated :(). This is really cool. SPACE ;)
