Video Camera Question...

Well, we are in the market for a video camera.. Primarily it will be to get vids of my kids and whatnot.. I would also however Love to get somehthing that I can mount in my car for an autocross or whatever...

I was looking at these three:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...000&CatId=3360

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&Sku=C925-1396

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...IN#detailspecs

I don't know a whole lot about what I should be looking at when looking at them. What's better, Harddrive or having one of the little SD discs? My camera takes the SD discs so I already have a USB SD drive for the comp...

Help me out... price range is $450 to $600...

Have you considered one of the new digital cameras that can shoot HD, and for a fraction of the price of a camcorder? I bought a 10 mpxl Kodak Z1085 for $90 that, with the 8Gb SDHC card ($16) I can shoot a half hour of 1280x720 x30fps video. It has 5X optical zoom. There are other digicams that do HD video on the cheap, so do a little research and see what is out there. At least for in-car use it might be the way to go.

I wouldn't do the Discs ... because if you are thinking about editing it in some program ... the discs can be a pain to work with. I would stick with either a Tape Base Video camera or a Hard Drive. The work the best for editing a bit in a basic program.

Or yeah ... do what Oregon-ized said ... get a Photo Camera with the ability to shoot video ... it's not exactly the best ... but works great for family outings and such. This is keep you having to take to big things with you ... only draw back ... have to take lots of memory to hold both video and pics.

Canon HV30 is now at $599.00 due to the HV40 coming out.

This is the standard for the pro's out here in L.A.. In fact, it is used as a 2nd unit camera and can shoot a pro documentary. Remember, one thing, pro's use units with tapes or SD cards...anything else for consumers.
