Mpg

I have 2005 SE with 5-speed manual trans. Original owner.
When NEW I got 39.6 MPG highway using cruise control @ 62 MPH. City driving yields 32 MPG. AND, using air conditioning at 62 MPH also yields 32 MPG. Ouch!
Just checked again here Jun 2011 and got astounding 39.4 MPG highway using cruise control @ 62 MPH. (about 15% of those 130 "test" miles were city driving and might have skewed results downward).
Currently have 183,000 miles. Wonderful car and F U N to drive!

Consistantly on the hwy i pull about 38 mpg but most of my mileage is is town and atleast half of that is spent racing or blowing by people in town. so i end up with high 20's if i were to shed my lead foot its in the 30's thats with a Cold air intake and the bosch best sparkplugs but well.. im sure this is all going to change with my engine

Because cold air intakes help performance with increased air density providing more oxygen but while it seems intuitive this would increase efficiency, in real world, they cause a decrease from cooler temperatures not atomizing the fuel as effectively as higher temp air. Warm air intakes are typically sought for increasing efficiency.

As for the exhaust, reducing back pressure, generally from increasing pipe diameter, will help fuel efficiency at higher rpm's but lower rpm driving, as normally done when attempting to maximize fuel efficiency, will see a negative effect on this efficiency. The primary reason is exhaust velocity is reduced with a larger volume exhaust system at lower, gas conserving, rpm driving.

If the vehicle sees consistent redline shifts and generally run at higher rpm's, then cold air intake and exhaust mods will show moderate increase in fuel efficiency with a notable increase in power but if driven at lower rpm's, gas mileage can be expected to decrease.

With my 2011, ATX, 1,500 miles on the od, 60 mph, highway only, 43.3 mpg via on board computer. Hard to believe!

Two weeks later with an additional 125 pound person aboard and running @ 65 mph the mpg dpped to 37.8.

Weight, road and weather conditions can make a big difference.

In town I ave around 23-24 mpg.

I just got a whopping 42 mpg with a 2011 SE with a 5 speed manual! ...was able to go 503 miles on a tank of gas. I've been averaging 35-37 with a high before now of 39.
My normal work commute is through the middle of a small town...35 down to 25mph and 4 stoplights. Then it's up to 45mph on the outside of town with three stop signs about 3-4 miles apart. Total commute is 15 miles one way.
This past week I had to work at another facility...72 miles round trip with about 70% of it 65mph highway.

Worst mileage so far was in middle of winter during a bad week of snow...got 30 mpg.

This is the first time I have checked my MPG and am disappointed with the 22.5 MPG that I got. All city driving, I don't drive it like it's stolen but I don't strive for MPG either. Maybe my foot is heavier than I think...

I always get roughly 20-25 mpg. It sucks. but hey LA traffic may be to blame.
