The biggest obstacles on that particular course, aside from the obvious cones, were the ruts. It is on some old farm land, and is very loose tilled up soil. The 4wd and over 2.4L class went first, and creating some big ruts for the littler 2wd cars. When I was trying to take a certain line around a turn, my tires got stuck in the ruts almost every time, and when I was trying to slide the rear end, it usually got stuck in a rut and stopped sliding.
The only good thing about ruts is that once your tires are stuck in them, they help you get around the turn, usually the outside front wheel takes most of the force and helps steer you.
Last year at the same site, an Impreza with a H-6 motor took a turn real fast and slid into a rut sideways. The inside wheels came off the ground about a foot or so. It looked really cool, but I'm sure it's not good for the car to do that all the time. I think one or both of it's outside tires broke the beads.
It happened to one of my last year tires too, that's why I always run 42-43psi, esp in the front. That's also why I got a beater car... I just don't know if I can fix it up in time for the next event.
^^I've always wanted to try ice racing too. In 2yrs I plan on moving to Michigan, I think they do ice racing there.

That Audi looks an awful lot like a VW Sciracco, another fine automobile for small HP good fun.
Looking at those pictures makes me wish it was colder up here in new york so I can take my beater neon ice racing. A lot like Auto-X and Rally-X in that the track is flat with no real obsticles other than snowbanks and cones. The real difference is all of the cars from your class are on the track at the same time.
Neet stuff if you're in the northeast looking for a good time.

^^^Of course, the Ur-Quattro would be super-bad. But that jumps the line into cars that I wouldn't really want to risk damage on...

|BtownB||or maybe an Audi 90...with a 6 cyl and quattro...it may be a bit more agile than the 5000...though not as classic of a ride|

SCCA rules state that Rally cannot have trees or obstacles on the course.
They are actually pretty much Auto-X courses, just in the dirt.

They are basically AutoXs in an open field.
I wouldn't take a new car out either. I'm thinking Subaru XT6, Audi 5000 Quattro, Saab 9-3, or Mazda B3000 truck or 323 GTX. All in decent condition but tons of miles and a REAL cheap price.

Damn! You got some balls taking a brand new car out there...looks like everyone else (minus the subaru) brought the $500 dollar special you were talking about
The photo appears to be in an open area, does the course go through wooded areas? I watched a ton of rally action when I lived over in Germany and even the best drivers like Colin McRae crashed their uber $$$ rides every now and then...the trees weren't too friendly to the cars

First event is coming up soon. Lincoln Nebraska, Feb. 19th.
I am trying to figure out if there's somebody who will let me team drive their car if I pay their registration fee and gas.
