The whole thing, or the handle? I assume you mean handle, but here's both. The handle just has a set screw, back it off and pull it off. Watch the O/D wire too.
The whole thing is one piece, shifter base, shaft and all. Remove console, unclip shifter cable and you should see the four bolts that hold the base in.

Autozone shift knob and oem '08 boot. After 2 hours of modification it all works perfectly and is secure(I did this a long time ago, but some one reserected this thread and its the only 08-10 in here i think)

Awesome thread! us Mazda 3 people have one similar. Its a little easier on us thanks to our staircase shifters. Also open to a much wider variety of shiftknobs. Here are some pics of different setups I've had on my atx 3...

I love my Mazdaspeed knob (which is pretty rare) but I also really miss my Monsterknob. What setup do yall like the best?
