I finished installing the grab assist handle today. E-Bay has brand new ones for sale.
I tried to get one from the junkyard, but the guy who works there says they do not save those cars and scrap them as soon as they get them. I somehow managed to order the wrong grab assist handle the first time. I looked again earlier in the week and they has the new ones for sale.

I put this picture up that shows how the workshop manual says to remove the Grab assist handle. It says put a 6 mm screwdriver in blade horizontal to the ground, rotate, one quarter turn and pull handle out. Doing it this way, the metal clip should stay in. There's a few ways to do it, but I haven't seen any one explain Ford's way. I broke one side of the handle using one method, and the other side using a different method, and then decided to follow my workshop manual and amazing.
I want to point out, I could not find anyone who knew what a 6mm flat head screwdriver was, so I bought a 1/4" screwdriver, and used the dremmel to grind down the thick part of the screwdriver so it would fit in the hole.

i painted my handles, but in a slightly different way:
-Using two Needle nose Pliers
You may not need to take the clips off that "hold" the spring in place. Try first without breaking it off. If you're scared or don't wanna break anything, then I guess just use the method first made for this thread.
**NOTE: Make note of where the ends of the spring are inserted. This is important for reinstalling (and if the spring pops off, which may certainly happen).**

1. I just broke off those annoying clips. They hold the spring in place, but just got in the way for me. You never really see them anyway, so it didn't bother me.
2. Take a small screwdriver and pry the U-shaped pieces up. There are little notches on the handle so you can pry and pinch it out.
The handle should come right off at this point.
Paint it to your liking and then reinstall The Reinstall is reversed from taking it off.
Pop the handle back on the pegs/hooks and slip the little U-shaped pieces back on (the right way).
Now, this next part is the hardest because you have to bend the spring back into the little slot. (This is why I got frustrated and just ripped those clip covers off - but you probably won't have to!)
I used one plier to grasp the End of the spring and bend it in as far as possible.
Then, I used another plier to grab a little farther down on the spring and push it in place. It will make better sense when doing it.
In case you can't read the picture:
The shorter "leg" of the spring is toward the top, and goes in first if it happens to fall off.
The Longer "leg" of the spring is toward the bottom, and that end has to be pushed down into the little 'slot' with the plier(s).
And, that's how I painted my handles. I hope it can help someone out there

I'm not too impressed with the mounting method. This type of mounting is often used where strength isn't important and I have doubt about how the handle will hold up when it gets pulled on.
Every other car I've seen uses screws to hold down something that requires some strength.

I guess I'm an idiot so I'll have to have a professional do it. I got one part of a handle off, but can't get the cip out. so now I think the handle is broken.
