i would also recommend nasa which may run in your area..i will check...it seems that in your area there are a lot of fairly inexpensive track days w/o instruction also, so after some "tutored" weekends, you can work on what you learned from the instruction. try www.racenasa.com .and nasa was just at grattan last weekend

Look no further than SVTOA. You can't beat the price and the amount of seat time in your own car. The Michigan chapter alone has put on 4 events this year at Waterford Hills, Gingerman, Putnam Park and Autobahn.
The Michigan chapter was very light on classroom instruction at Putnam Park where I instructed but at all of the National SVTOA events you get excellent classroom instruction catered to the novice driver. Roughly 50% of our attendees are first or second time students so the intimidation factor of being a rookie is minimized.
The next event is a co-sponsored event at Mid Ohio October 21st - 23rd with the Ohio SAAC Club.
The information to register follows.
Join us for the NW SAAC / SVTOA event at the spectacular Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Lexington, OH, Fri - Sunday, Oct 21 - 23. This is a joint event between the NW Ohio SAAC club and the Pittsburgh SVTOA Chapter. As such, we WILL be running a scaled-down version of our SVTOA On Track Performance Driving Clinic within the overall structure of the NW Ohio SAAC club.
On Sat & Sun ONLY, we will have classroom sessions and be bringing a crew of our highly-enthusiastic and dedicated SVTOA in-car instructors. Mid-Ohio is a technically demanding and rewarding course to drive. The classroom sessions and in-car instructors are HIGHLY recommended for the Beginner and Novice participants and will cost you nothing extra!
* This event is limited to 80 vehicles per day and is open to ALL MAKES AND MODELS.
Pre-Registration is REQUIRED. To register, contact:
Ohio SAAC Region Inc.
6985 Leigh Ave. NW
North Canton, OH 44720
If you WANT AN INSTRUCTOR and want to participate in the classroom sessions, you MUST write-in "Instructor requested" on your registration form.
Cost is $185.00 / per day.
Please don't hesitate to contact Rod or me if you have any questions about the event.
See you on track... at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course!

|Zurkowski||You are right. Most people would want to learn to drive their own car. But on the other hand if you wreak, there goes your car. So I would rather drive someone elses car that is built for speed and to handle wreaks and not worry about how I'm going to get home. You could of couse trailer your car there. But you know people get upset if you trailer your car to the track because they think that you never drive your car on the street. But at least if you blow up your car you can still get you and your car home.|

I guess it depends on what kind of racing you plan to do. Road course, autoX, some of both...

|Zurkowski||I have not tried but have heard that the Richard Petty Driving Experience is very good. They have some classes at the Michigan INT'L speed way. Looks as though it was on the 1st and 2nd of October. I can't tell from the website when it will be back but should be soon. Here is the LINK for it.|

NASA runs a very nice HPDE program. $300 gets you 3-4 hours on track with an instructor over 2 days, as well as classroom sessions.

Evolution Performance Driving School
About 10% the cost of Bondurant or other schools, and they are fantastic for both the newbie and the advanced driver. Read the thread and you'll see everything...
BTW, it is reccomended you hit at least a few AutoXs before you go...
