Cmmcc Here is a picture of the dash console... It houses a 7inch touch screen monitor which connects to the carputer under the seat. It has windows XP on it ect... it will operate just as a normal computer has GPS Navigation on it ect... the actual focusfanatics link is here

FocusInCali I'm still trying to figure out why you want the computer in the car. That answer would help in the installation.

I'm guessing for DVD and MP3 use. Is that it?
And will you have a screen?

Cmmcc I purchased the Carputer from another member here... I just wanted to see what the best way to install it was without

1. loosing my head unit
2. loosing sound quality

As far as not loosing my head unit I think I will relocate it to above the glovebox and as far as the audio is concerned I found that a minijack to rca from the computer sound card to the aux in on my head unit was easiest but I figured doing that might loose some sound quality. I thought if i took my sound card which has that external box with all those connection options on it and used the rca outputs on that box i could then connect that to the aux jack on the head unit and not loose quality of the audio. I might be complicating things by trying to add the external box but I dont want to loose audio quality when watching a DVD or playing MP3's.

FocusInCali If you don't mind me asking, what's the point or your reason for installing this?

Ok lets try it like this...

If I connect the computer in my trunk or under my seat... I can mount an external audigy 2 somewhere... ::think::

I can run that to an Aux input in my head unit which will obviously have to be moved... somewhere... ::think::

The pic shows the card... mounted in the puter of course, and the external dricve which will also have to be mounted somewhere.... if all else fails I think i can jsut go out with a mini jack into the aux rca on my headunit...

Foci_Fosho For the carputer, Use the RCA Front, or Rear outputs, go into a Y-shaped Stereo RCA, to 3.5 mm headphone jack adaptor. At least this is what I did to hook up my computer to a dolby digital amplifier.

I'm sure those SB audigy cards/adaptors have a line in as well as a line out for the amplifier. I have little experience with fiber optic connectors and I don't know if those would work.

FocusInCali The stock size is 5x7 or 6x8, both will work.

The plastic grille is part of the door panel.

If you plan to get an amp, you can use the stock size, or upgrade to round 6.5" component speakers. There's a How-To in the FAQ to build baffles.

I would stay away from Audioblah.

Cmmcc 6x8's on all 4.. would I have to use the stock plastic panels to go over them or leave them open?

W~Phoenix~{RC} I believe if you went with 6x8 that should fit just fine for the speakers. I can't help much with the carputer question though . . .

Cheers!
