sailor How much real gap is left with the hold down strap in place is a question, some think sealing it better was a help in low speed driving.

Tymcftw I didn't see any noticeable difference with the tape. Oh well, no loss.

Paddler54 I've noticed my 15 also has the uneven throttle response from a stop. So I checked under the hood and expected to see Ford had re-engineered the cold air intake connection....wasn't the case. So I checked my wife's 14 Escape with the 2.0L turbo...same setup (but the turbo and inter-cooler probably negate the issue). Guess I'll get the old electricians tape out and see if it corrects my 5 speed throttle issues. If it works then I'll tape up the wife's car just for grins.

Tymcftw Just checked and looks like I have a pretty serious gap. Just patched it up with some electrical tape, we'll see how it goes!

Been having issues with throttle response coming from a full stop so hope this helps.

sailor 8 ponies at WOT isn't a large percentage improvement, but as a real WHP gain it's significant. (would be a larger number if figured at the engine)

thelongone13 The ol butt dyno couldn't tell. Then again, I already have the snorkel deleted anyway, so I doubt it matters at this point.

The horsepower gain is likely the synergy of the removal of two intake restrictions, the long snorkel and the stock paper air filter. This performance mod was pioneered by forum moderator dyn085. It is important to note that he only achieved the horsepower gain with the K&N air filter in place. He saw no increase in horsepower from removing only the snorkel if the stock paper filter was left in place. The only factor that may have skewed that test is the dyno run with the paper filter/snorkel delete was not a brand new paper air filter and I don't know how much service it had seen. The results of the snorkel delete/K&N air filter were conclusive at +8 hp. We owe a lot to Duane for bringing this mod to the forum.

sailor Still draws air from the outside as opposed to under the hood.

Combined effect from reduced restriction in two places, removing the snorkel & replacing the air filter with a less restrictive one.

Warmer air reduces power, less dense so lower oxygen & less fuel to match.
