|timinks2||Just performed this job on my 2006 Focus, didn't have to take the seat out (i'm 6'2 and a big guy) and it took me about 20 minutes! The only tools I needed was a Flat-Headed screwdriver, and a 5/16ths nut driver. I did take some lithium grease and put on the door slider and any rotating point that i could find. Hopefully the one I got from the salvage yard will last as long as the one that was in the car from when i bought it new (yes, 8 years of reliable service out of this car) but we shall see! if nothing else they're 6 bucks at the salvage yards and very easy to replace.|

|Tklein||My 06 zx4 would be identical to your 05; And I didn't have to take out the seat either ! And you"re right, it is a poor design and they sure made things better 30 yrs.+ ago !! Thanks for your reply !!!!!|

Ford Part # 19B888 for function selector cables
Ford Part # 19C733 for temperature cables

I really don't expect them (Ford) to do anything about it. It is a poor design though. My 84 F-250 has the original cables for the heat selector, because back then they made things out of steel and not plastic.
That said, the job really wasn't difficult. Someone on YouTube recommended taking out the seat (?) but I'm not a very big guy so I didn't have any problems just sitting in the driver's footwell.

|Tklein||The cables go bad because the vent and temp. control doors bind up ! A common problem with certain years of Focus ! Taking the apparatus apart down below will give you access to the actual controls and allow you to free them up ! But they end up binding up again sooner or later ! Ford won"t address the problem anymore as the cars are too old and they have moved on !|

|forddiesel1||Thanks for the how-to. This was super easy and now my control works smoothly again. I think it took me 30 min start to finish. Part was $28 from Ford.|

See what you can reach through the passenger side with the fan removed, a good place to clean out in any case.
Check this "stickie" from the top of the page:http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/general-technical-chat/302320-does-your-vent-selector-stick-have-you-broken-cables-read.html

|Tklein||My problem is the temp. selector cable, plus the fact that the knob down below that it attaches to "wont turn" which is why the cable went bad in the first place ! Other than replacing the whole box (Ford wants almost 500$ for one ), need to figure out a way of freeing that control up !! Thanks, Tim Klein|

Can someone provide the cable assembly part numbers for both the temperature control and function control cables?
Will make life easier to order when needed.
Thanks for the help!
