It's not just about Apple; it's about doing something right or wrong. If a tech company knows how to make in-car systems right, then the struggling manufacturers should step aside and let third parties do the hard work until they have the wherewithal to do it themselves. There's absolutely no reason other than greed that consumers should have to use sub-standard closed systems in their very expensive vehicles when you can get better performance out of some $0.99 apps.
I totally agree. that's exactly why (although I dislike our legal system) I'm totally pro this new class action suit against Ford - Hagens Berman - http://www.hbsslaw.com/resources/new...stem-Defective) and Grant & Eisenhofer (http://www.currentlegalcases.com/cas...h-lawsuit.html) - for anyone that has no idea what i'm talking about.

What bothers me most is the fact that we have come to a place where companies have lost the pride in what they do. You can build a system with errors as long as you acknowledge them and try to rectify. I might take this post out of context but in line with the original thread of why automakers shouldn't be entertainment technologists, my sync issues are case in point of this issue. Ford creates awesome cars! forget about reliability for a second, but the ecoboost engine (the five out of the six that actually work) are an unbelievable leap in technology.
MFT on the other hand makes me question if Ford is a car manufacturer or a new play station producer.
Ford, stay with what you're good at!
Unfortunately the only voice that I as a consumer really have is precisely these (ugly) class action suits.
just my two cents

"Vendor cloud washing", that's a good one!

I am a Validation Engineer working on 10GbE Data Center products and I just shake my head every time I see the term "cloud" when it's applied to network computing.

slybarman Will the cloud make my ford car so smart that it realizes the transmission shouldn't grind, rattle, and shake?

Maybe if Apple products were a bit bulkier and came with a stylus you'd like them more and the argument would be moot....
Dude, do you work for apple? You are defending them like Steve Jobs was your father or something. Not sure why you are so annoyed by people talking about apple.

Yeah, Apple is just...awesome.

I was hoping this would evolve into an intellectual discussion about infotainment systems not turn into a cell phone debate.

To each their own, one man's junk is another mans treasure, be thankful we have choices. if you like Apple then buy Apple, if you like Android then buy Android. Nobody is forcing you to buy anything.

Thanks! I'll be adding another how-to describing how to add real buttons to the Pi's GPIO header to control the back, home, volume, power, and menu controls on the phone.
