Luis360 ok the gauges now work because i bought a new alternator. but now my car wont stay on

Luis360 another weird thing i noticed in my car after the incident is that now every time i start the car, my gauges reset and then stop working.

Luis360 im going to keep my car parked at home till everything is working properly. dont want to overheat my car. im going to replace the alternator. i changed the relays today and still doing the same thing. fans wont turn on even if i turn my a/c on.

sailor Looks like the Alt. got "fried" as well.

Look for a local rebuilder to fix the one you have, it'll be a lot cheaper & is more likely to work than the "crapshoot" rebuilts we keep hearing about (tried three, finally got one that works, is a typical comment)

Don't run it too long at that voltage, it'll start boiling the battery dry quite quickly...

cpalz Check your fan relay under the hood. It might have suffered as well. It is easiest to swap it out with a relay that is the same design under the hood that is working. Example: If it is the same as the horn relay, and your horn works, switch the fan and horn relay. See if both work.
