|mustang6tee8||Same thing happened when I bought my 2012 used. The dealer got my VIN and sent it to Ford, who had to cut it (laser cut keys).|

As it was kinda pointed out it isn't programming the key per say, its programming the car to recognize the key. You can't just mail the key somewhere to be programmed.
Unfortunately with only one key the dealer is about your only option. I kinda doubt a lock smith is going to have the tools to access the BCM/PCM or where ever the key data is stored to program another key.

If you have two keys already cut and programmed its a simple task outlined in the owners manual to program the third key by following a sequence of turning the keys from off to key on engine off a certain number of times, you would just need to find a locksmith that can cut the side milled blank properly.
However if you only have one key the dealer is pretty much your only option as you can't self program without two working keys first.
I don't know any shops local to you though.

Need key programmed. Dealer cannot do it
I bought a 2012 SEL with only one key, I bought a new one from ebay, but it's uncut.
I was able to program it to unlock the doors.. ( good backup)
So I called my local stealership and they charge $150 for a key ordered from Ford ( I guess pre-cut)
I live about an hour away from Memphis and I get the same response from the dealers there...
Does anyone know in the Memphis area where to get my key cut and programmed for a reasonable price ? Or else I'd like to mail it in to someone and get it done.
