katiekay to FF!

Your shifter is held on by an allen screw. Very simple to replace. Read this:

http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/s...threadid=49120

Here are a few replacements:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-OE...b55a72&vxp=mtr

This one is my absolute favorite:

I have it in mine:

So, by following the instructions I posted and buying the $21.99 shift knob, yours can look just as good :)

matmatician Welcome to Focus Fanatics!

First off, there is no way in heck I would pay 200 bucks to fix that!! If I were you, I would try to find one in a junkyard. Then you can look at the whole assembly and learn ya somethin! I've learned a ton about the interior trim and shifter assembly at the junkyard. I really highly doubt there's enough in parts OR labor there to justify the 200 dollar price Ford is quoting you...

2002 Focus Shifter Stick

Hello guys,

About 4 months ago I started my focus like everyday to go to work.

When I was about to hit reverse, the shifter came out.

Not the stick that goes all the way down to the transmission, the plastic cover of the shifter, with the button that you press to move it.

This also included the OD (overdrive) cable that's inside the shifter. I put it back and is loose now, but still working. But is completely loose. If I do an up movement of the shifter, it comes out and I stay with the stick on my hand.

I called my local ford delearship and a rep told me it will cost me $97.42 for a new shifter, and about $90 for labor.

Jesus...200 bucks for that freaking plastic?

My question is: Has this ever happened to any of you out there? Is there a cheaper solution? I mean is just the plastic cover on top....$200.... really?

Is there a shifter knob I can just put there and get done with it? If so, do any of you recommend a brand, or an specific one? The second pic is a Toyota Camry, but you get the idea of what happend. The plastic thing on the first pic came out.
