Chinese 103's

Just replaced my 2 year old A103's (made in Mexico) for new A103's (made in China). New plugs had silver metal shell, not the black one Autolite copper plugs usually have. Idle is smoother and the Focus has a little more pep. Does anyone have experience or know of the longevity of these Chinese Autolite 103's.

rprastein I've got a 2004 ZX3 2.3L PZEV, so a little earlier than this thread is nominally about... 286K miles on it, had its first spark plug change last year by a shop trying to troubleshoot misfiring on cylinders 2 and 3. I don't know what kind of plugs he put in, but I think they were iridium (I remember the package had purple on it and it seemed exotic, lol, I had never heard of iridium before).

The plugs change didn't help, but replacing the coil *boots* did, back then.

A year later, misfiring again, this time on cylinders 1 and 4. This thread has been great, answered a bunch of my questions. If I replace the plugs again, myself, it will be with the stock OEM plugs. I'm more interested in long life than in performance. Per the Ford dealer, the part number for my car is AGSF2YPC and they are $13.46 apiece.

Question: Do the OEM plugs come pre-gapped, or do I need to gap them myself?

Thanks,

Rebeccah

I have never seen or heard of that before. I've been through several sets of 103s on my set-up and never had a separation issue. Heck, I could even re-use these in other cars if I wanted to. Some attention from a wirebrush, and a different gap and good to go.

notfortheweak Just put the autolite 103s in. Better idle, more pep. Iridiums were put in 5 k miles ago. Car hated them.

sailor Correct, this is the Duratec Performance '08-'11 section for MkII owners.

Try the MkIII sections, your engine type is Duratec TiVCT.

Welcome to FF, you should find a lot of info. once you get into the MkIII sections & general areas that fit all models.

macguitarman Guys, this thread is a bit old, I have a 2013 Focus SE, Autolite A103 apparently do not fit on this year.

Stock plugs are Motorcraft SP-535

what is the deal with these Foci and this dead spot lag when at full stop and gassing it, i hate it, it sucks.

ellmarshptbo well I changed my spark plugs today in my new to me 06' Focus. I used Autolite 104 coppers. I did not know the mileage of the plugs, but the previous owner had put Bosch platinum's in her! they didnt look too bad, electrode was worn. I guess on the bright side they were not factory at 200XXX KM's ;) I was greeted with better start up, better accel espcially in 1st gear and a smoother idle. Thanks everyone!
