zcoleman The road noise starts at speeds past 25 MPH. If she is going 40+ Sync becomes completely un-usable.

asting How bad is it? I've seen on these forums that people put dynamat under the microphone and it helps a bit. I plan on doing the entire car, including the roof so supposedly it should improve. What speed is the road noise at?

How did you download that version? Mine only shows 3.1.1c and says it is up to date.
edit: apparently it's dealer only.

zcoleman The Ford service department has upgraded the software and swapped the microphone from another Focus during testing and still no resolution. Now, they believe it's in the wiring of the sync inside the car.

This I am not sure of, but I will look into it. Thanks for the idea.

I have not tried the switch myself, I just know that some phones are much better than others and that may be the culprit.
We have swapped phones and used a Service Tech's phone in her Focus with the same issues. The last time we went to the dealership they did replace the mic, but there still is quite a bit of road noise and distortion.

dbenney the sync in my 2012 Focus works flawlessly. people i talk to do hear a little road noise but not bad. my voice sounds clear and not distorted in any way. I have had nothing but good luck with my Focus.

Jim_J My sync handfree seems OK, at least no one has complained, although I have made very few calls.

Do you have the console with the "bake your sunglasses" holder, or just the mic?

Have you tried it with different phones?
