Thanks!
I always wondered about this part.

Not much to it really... I basically found an andriod phone that would match the size of the hole in the factory stereo trim, and epoxied it to the trim piece to keep the phone where it needs to stay. For power it was simply buy one of those little USB charger things that you can get almost anywhere then solder the pos and neg ends of the part that goes into the cig lighter to a pair of wires. the Pos you would connect to a 12 volt hot with key on, and the neg to a good ground. From the USB charger thing, just run a regular charger cord to the phones usb charge jack on the bottom of the phone (or where ever it is on the phone you are using). I notched a hole in my glovebox for the usb charger thingee (yes this is a technical term) and epoxied it in place so it dont go anywhere. This not only supplies power to the phone in the car but also offers a usb charge port for other devices such as a friend or significant others phone or whatever, and all you gotta do is open the glove box to get to it. You will want to leave the factory stereo display connected to the stereo but tuck it up under the dash out of the way somewhere, (the stereo wont work if you unplug it) Then run an audio cable with 2 male headphone jacks from the headphone jack on the phone to the aux in port in the glove box (or center console depending on where it is in your car). Hit the Aux button on the factory stereo control, turn the volume all the way up on the phone and control the volume using the factory stereo volume (or steering wheel buttons if you have them). On the phone itself you will install an app called Tasker, which will allow you to set a "profile" which monitors the charge port. You will want to program it to put the phone to sleep (shut off the screen) when it does not detect power on the usb port. It does have phone functionality for emergencies and has internet available, but usually if i have to do anything net related, i just let it connect to my home wifi and download map updates etc before i leave. Total cost was about 80 dollars for the phone from amazon and about 20 bucks every three months for phone and internet service. Add another 25 dollars or so worth of wiring, and mounting provisions, and it can be restored back to original easily if i ever sell the car. Works really damn well now that i got the bugs out of it. The nice thing is to the untrained eye, it still looks like the factory plain jane stereo when the car is shut off.

mikesusz i like being able to look at mine; sometimes i use Waze or the Escort app in addition to my built-in nav. i'd love to just see the output of Waze on my big LCD screen but Į\_(ツ)_/Į

this post (earlier in this thread) has photos of my pro-clip + arkon mount setup.

of course for the user, this leaves a lot to be desired.
After I posted, I sat here and was thinking just that.

Iíve played with and have quite a bit of Kydex for making gun holsters. I think I am going to make myself a phone holster and mount it to the driverís side of the center console down by my knee.

I donít need it for interaction, this is part of why I donít really want a mount that puts it on the dash, window or controls.
I just need a place to set it, other than IN the console or my cup holder. I just want it out of my pocket and if I put it in the console, Iíll forget it.

Highly recommended (especially for $7).
I've got something exactly like this but mounts to the air vent. Best phone mount I've ever had, especially for 7 bucks.
