Lifetime warranty means you take the wires back to the place you bought them from - along with your receipt - and they give you a new set. It does not mean you take them back and get your money back.
If water got into the plug well and was there for a long time it might seep into the wires. But as long as you put silicon grease on the wires before you put them on the plugs then it should have protected them from that.

|cindy13088||My car is back in the garage that fixed it the first time. They said I need new plugs and wires, that the plugs were fouled and the wires were arcing. The plugs are only about 3 months old (motorcraft). The wires I bought have a lifetime warranty, so they are getting a new set from NAPA and I can return the old ones. They said they have already checked the coil pack (replaced the first time), the cat converter, and everything else checks out fine with no problems. If that's the case, what caused the plugs to foul and the car to hesitate and chug with misfires again? Could the water in the spark plug well have ruined these parts? My brother told the garage that the Beldon wires did not go all the way down and meet the top of the motor like they should even though they are made for my year and model car. The garage said that is the only way water would get in there was if the wires were not tight, yet they are going to try the same wires on the car again because the garage said they have never had a problem with them before. I don't know if there was water in the well before the car started running like crap because we didn't look down there till the other day. It had been chugging for almost a week before we found the water. I'm assuming they checked for a head gasket leaking too. My brother noticed I had a lot of water coming out of my tailpipe when he followed me to the garage but it was clear water and no white smoke other than the normal exhaust smoke you get when the car is cold. I'm baffled, and so discouraged. This is the 3rd used car I have bought (because I can't afford a new one) that has had problems from the start after the person selling it said it was in great condition with no issues. Oh and the garage wanted 184 dollars to for the plugs and wires LOL...my brother told them no way, they had said the diagnostic was going to be free because I was having the same problem again as before when they fixed it. Waiting for them to call back to see what they are charging me. I wanted the serpentine belt changed, afraid of what that will cost me!|

What causes this is a leaky valve cover gasket.
One of the combustion products of gasoline is water. Most of this goes out the tailpipe but some goes past the rings into the crankcase, as engine blowby
The plastic valve covers are much cooler than the aluminum engine. So what happens is the blowby gasses containing water vapor rise in the engine and the water vapor condenses on the plastic valve cover. Then if there is a leak it runs past the valve cover gasket and into the spark plug well, rather than back into the engine crankcase where it would be evaporated again.
This is very easy to fix. Get a rubber mallet with a soft rubber head. Get a valve cover gasket. Remove all bolts holding the valve cover gasket down. Give it a rap on the side with the rubber mallet (if it is stuck to the engine) and it will pop right off. Replace the gasket and tighten the cover back down hand-tight.

|cindy13088||It was nothing but rusty colored water no coolant or oil mixed in with it. We used a clear rubber hose from my daughters nebulizer and a syringe to get the water out. The weird thing was when we pushed it out through the hose to empty the hose it was white and foamy like soap suds. I did a search on water getting in there and a lot of people have had this problem right up until the 2006 models and no one seems to know how the water is getting in there. Some have said it's the jets that for the windshield washers that may have a leak and the cleaner is spraying on the motor and if the plug wires aren't flush the water is seeping in. I did notice that these new plug wires I bought a month ago do not snap down as tight as the old wires did. The boot seems to be a little taller than the old wires. I might try putting my old wires back on again and see what happens. When I had the problem before the number 2 cyclinder wire was arching but it ended up being the coil pack that was bad so I wonder if that old wire is still good and I will be able to use it. Would the bad coil pack have made that wire arc?|

|cboeger||Possibly a blown head gasket if water is leaking into spark plugs, also its def blown head gasket if theres coolant in the spark plug area or you could have a bad intake manifold thats letting stuff leak into it|

|cindy13088||Well my focus is now dead. The chugging and hesitation got worse. Just now my brother pulled the spark plug wire off and there was water down inside where the plugs are. What would cause this? We got most of the water out and the inside of the brand new wires I bought the 2nd and 3rd cylinder ones were all rusted???? They are brand new, the other 2 were fine. The plugs in the car are not very old either, they were changed only a few months before I bought the car back in Feb. Anyway, he checked all the wires and when we went to start it it wouldn't start or if it did it was very rough and as soon as you put it in gear, it would stall. There are no leaks anywhere, but it almost seems like the plug wires are not going all the way down like the old wires did even though you can hear them snap onto the plug. I hope I'm making some sense, I'm just so upset right now. I have an appt to take it back to the place that put the new coil in on Monday morning, but now I can't even drive it at all so will have to have it towed. More money I don't have. Does anyone know how water could get into where the plugs are? Is this something that is going to cost me an arm and a leg to have fixed?|

|cindy13088||Thanks Sailor, some very useful info. My daughter took the car to work and won't be home till 6pm tonight and by then it's supposed to rain. I will check these wires asap though to see if I see anything unusual. The spark plug wires are brand new too. I replaced those myself before it went to the garage for the diagnostic and new coil pack. I had found the number 2 wire arching and thought that was my problem but new wires didn't solve it. I had checked the wires going into the coil pack a month ago and didn't see anything weird or broken but that doesn't mean something didn't happen after they put the new coil pack in at the garage. Appreciate the help from all of you!|

"Underside" usually refers to checking the bottom of the coil for cracking, and is only possible with removal. NOT too likely with a new one, as it generally occurs with age.
The wiring is harder to "see" an issue with, unless a wire is loose at the connector or there is obvious damage. Look over carefully, also pay attention to whether it's under "tension" (no slack in harness, so the wires get pulled). Wiggling the harness with the engine running to see if a "miss" occurs can be helpful, just be careful of the "High Tension" wires (plug wires) since they CAN "Zap" you a bit if they aren't in real good condition. Use ONE HAND ONLY when working near high tension so any "zap" is just an "ouch" (general safety rule, electricians often put one hand in a pocket to avoid touching both hands when working near high voltage)
Intermittent problems with this wiring are somewhat common, and usually are internal to the wires as a result of the harness being pulled on due to poor routing/too short wires. The replacement pigtail "kit" is to repair connector issues as well as wiring issues NEAR the connector. The fact this kit is avail. speaks to the common nature of the problem.

|cindy13088||I will check to see if there are any wires that look exposed on there. Hard to see the underside unless I take it apart correct? Is there a way to check this that is fairly easy?|

If it is the coil pack......there is definately a problem there. BUT, I don't think the coil pack is the problem. I would think the harness connector to the coil pack is suspect.
