bad_haze You'll also need to assess the front suspension system and sway bar links/bushings. I just replaced it with a while. KYB coilover assembly and the difference is night and day... At 100,000 miles I think that's a huge factor to tackle. If you can keep the suspension of the car in excellent shape, you'll limit damage caused by excessive vibrations.

Brake fluid flush is a good idea. Mine came out amber, but clear. I repaced it with synthetic clear yellow DOT 3 fluid.

bad_haze I have an 07 focus. Regular trouble items include the alternator (replace every 3 years), and bearings (might want to keep an ear out for a failure). Aside from that I have followed the maintenance schedule and done the pcv valve, coolant flush, and transmission flush, etc... Coupled with no body or undercarriage rust, I get a lot of compliments from Ford mechanics about the car. Some even offer to buy it from me if I want to sell :)

PratoN Sorry about the zombie thread - I'm at about 97k miles and I've already flushed my coolant and I'm about to do the belts and spark plugs, but was wondering if there's any other preventative maintenance that's recommended but not in the manual.

I see a lot of people on other forums recommend changing / cleaning the PCV valve every 100k or so. It looks like this one is underneath a manifold which means replacing gaskets, etc. Unless I'm wrong about the accessibility, that seems like a lot of work for something that isn't malfunctioning at the moment.

Granted, if it does get clogged, you can blow gaskets and cause other problems so it's probably best to be proactive. What are your opinions on changing / cleaning PCV valves or any other components that aren't explicitly mentioned in the manual?

tvc55 I just changed the air filter on my 2012 SE. It is very tight. I had to widen the air cleaner box a touch to slide the solid end of the filter in the slot. Does anyone have any tricks to make this easier?

Great car, the only negative I've seen is in the shifting. If I had gotten a 2013 it'd be a manual.

Thanks!
How would you rate it overall?

kauserud Sorry for the delayed response, I've been out on the road again and put another 2,000 on it this week lol.

I finally opened up the owners manual and this is what I've found:

-Every 20k change out the cabin air filter (never been done)
-Every 30k change out the climate-controlled seat filter.
- Every 60K change out the engine air filter(Just purchased a replacement)
-Every 100K change engine coolant, replace spark plugs, and inspect accesory drive belt(s).

Questions I have are

- What is a climate controlled seat filter?
- I just purchased a K&N re-usable engine air filter, do any of you have experience with these?
