|03focus_sdd||The focus is actually a friend of mine...I asked her to explain what happened to it and she said she started it up and started fine. she started driving up the hill on her street and she said it just died. It didn't shake or make any noises or nothing, it just died...I'm not in the same state as the car is right now but I'll be taking another look at it in early march and let everyone know if the cams are moving when I crank the engine over. I'm also gonna buy a new compression tester set instead of renting one that might not even work. Does anyone have any suggestion on a certain brand? I was thinking of just getting a craftsman set.|

|Donnyd21||Could have had a valve drop! Easy way to see if the timing belt it ok is to have someone crank the car with the oil cap off, you should see the rocker arms moving, if they are and you have no compression either the timing jumped (doubt it) or you dropped a vlv seat which runined the head/pistons.|

|whynotthinkwhynot||You should get something- even with a bad timing belt. I'd expect to see around 30-50 on one cylinder.|

|03focus_sdd||Yeah I checked every cylinder...I'll try that and get back to you. I am also gonna try a different compression tester just to rule out a possible faulty one|

Have you checked for a broken timing belt? Depending on the position of the cam when the belt broke, it is possible that the valve train stopped at a position with at least one valve open on every cylinder.
An engine with a broken belt should spin quickly and freely. Remove the valve cover oil cap and watch the cam and valve train as you crank the motor. No movement of the cam = broken belt.
You checked every cylinder with a compression tester, right?

|03focus_sdd||I did a compression test a month ago and I didn't get any reading...so either that compression tester is bad or the rings are toast...has anyone had there rings go out on them while they were driving? If so can you explain what exactly happened when they gave out?|

|03focus_sdd||It cranks over fine. I confirmed that it was getting fuel by cleaning all the oil off of the plugs so they were dry and then I put all the plugs back in and cranked the engine over and pulled the plugs to smell them...they were all wet and smelt like fuel. I did use a spark tester so I know I do have spark.|

Is it cranking?
If yes it is 1 of 4 things
Fuel, spark, air or compression
Dd you remove fuel line off injector rail to confirm fuel is making it to that point?
If so it could be fuel injectors get a mechanics stethoscope and listen to hear if you can hear injectors clicking. If you can, get a spark tester and connect to spark plug wire boots.
Then get back to us.

I have an 03 focus SPI SOHC and I can't get it to start...it sat outside for a few months after it died randomly one day so there aren't any cel codes and I can't get the computer to throw any codes. I know for sure that it has spark and fuel. I'm not sure on the compression cause I don't have a compression tester at the moment but when I pulled the spark plugs there was a lot of oil on them...could this indicated a blown head gasket possibly??? Any help will be appreciated, thanks
