More power to you. I have more respect for the people who innovate than the people who buy a kit and throw it on.

search for old posts in the spi section. I remember back in the ole days there were a coupe on here. I think the name waterboy rings a bell. He used a turbo from a t-bird, iirc.

Tryintofocus I'm not necessarily worried about the max amount of boost as I never plan on running more than 5psi. I just want to do it cause it's something that isn't usually done.

crazy_urn As donny said, the SPI is a strong motor, if you replace the head to prevent the valve seat drop. I have seen several successful SPI turbo projects. It is not the easiest motor to boost, because you can't just buy a kit and bolt it on like you can with some other motors. but it can and has been done. I have heard that when done correctly the SPI can handle more boost than the zetec because of the different blocks. but that is information I recall reading 7+ years ago, so it may be incorrect.

don't listen to people like zxthrizzle who don't have any idea what they are talking about. they just make blanket generalizations based on a small amount of information.

Do you own research and make your own decisions.

Tryintofocus The reason I'm doing it is because my buddy swapped out his entire eclipse second gen turbo kit for a stage 2 one and offered to give me the stock one. So all my kit will cost me is the amount to have a couple of parts fabricated along with the cost of a fmu. But I went and looked at the car yesterday and me and mom decided to wait on it. So I'm either getting an spi, or I can talk her into a zx3. We'll see what happens

Dont understand why everyone bashes the SPI, spend $500 max to swap the head out BEFORE anything happens and you will get well over 250k worry free miles out of the SPI, besides the head issue they are great motors.

My bud David is doing a SPI turbo build as well. He is very knowledgeable about the SPI and escort SOHC and I know can answer every question you can ask him.

TheGlassMaker You most certainly can build a turbo SPI. They even put out more torque than a zetec.

There used to be a well known spi turbo build on here, you ZXthrizzle should know that.

ZXthrizzle05 never ever ever buy an spi you rbetter off with a 240 dollar Honda from craigslist
