#1fordfan my 2005 focus had a burned out headlight a couple months ago and I got 5 mpg's less until I got it fixed!!

gary the wolf l had the rear light switch go and it stopped the car,,2001 focus,,,,had to replace it

StingRay I had an 09 that had a burned out tail lamp bulb once. Everything worked perfectly.

mikebontoft and if the brake lights don't work and it won't shift out of park... better check that switch!

You sure about that?

The transmission doesn't know what is happening with the lightbulbs.

If the brake stop lamp switch is bad, you can't shift out of park. (unless you manually depress the plunger on the shifter for a manual over ride)

katiekay It could have been that the original OP may have worded his complaint wrong. If is an ATX, it will not go out of park if the brake lights are out.

Ha! That is what I thought as well. It was so "out there" I had to get it on FF. However, I must admit the older I get nothing surprises me any more!

lddavis Easy to test. Take out a rear brake light bulb; then see if the car starts.
