It's been said (never proven but never disproven) that people can't hear the difference between amps as long as you have correct tuning (like on an rta) to keep the freq response the same. Can't remember the guys name but he was/is a huge sq guy (worked champ competitor) that started that worth proper eqing you can't hear a difference. He did tons of bound testing where people could pick any amps they wanted. He would hook them up and adjust an eq for a flat response from all the amps. You had to listen to it then guys which amp was use during which trial. No one ever got it 100% correct and at most got 50% but with only 4 choices it was expected.
With that said I run what I prefer based on customer service, reliability, what fits the space I have, and the power I need. It just so happens Rockford guys the bill and it really helps that I can get nice discounts from a local dealer (that I recently started working at but for discounts before hand) as I was a return customer that required them at comps and randomly giving demos and sending people there.
It pays off to be a returning customer.

After reading all of this I am learning a lot about other brands that I have never heard of. Mainly because in my stereo set-up a subwoofer is just there to handle the notes that the front stage cannot produce at a moderate volume. In my system the subwoofer is there to produce the musical lows of an audio track and not to explode my head.
I appreciate the time that people put into the DB drag cars because I used to do that a long time ago. Im talking when Phoenix Gold, MTX, Orion, and the round Kicker Solobarics where the hot products. Now there are so many brands its hard to keep track of.
I like seeing the diversity of this hobby. I see a lot of conversation about 4-5k watt amplifiers that are running the subwoofers which is very very cool. And then i'm over here going "how can I put more cleaner power to my front speakers". I guess i'm on the complete opposite side of the car audio world as some people. For example some people will spend $1000 for 4 15" subwoofers and $1000 dollars on a 3k watt amp to power them. Where I would spend the same amount on 1 8" subwoofer and a 300w amplifier to drive it. Just as long as it sounds good musically.
I have found that most cheap amplifier companies lie about there power rating because they want the uneducated customer to purchase their products. I can't tell you how many times people have told me that I got ripped off because I use a $2000 amplifier that is rated at 100x4. Where I could have gotten a pyramid amp that is 100x4 and costs $90.
Anyway sorry for the rant, just thought it might have been good to get a different point of view about subwoofers and what I feel their purpose is.

Fosgate lost me when they moved from Tempe to Asia.
But hey they didn't move management.

I hear ya. But Rockford did themselves in years ago with the hard core of car audio. Now the only thing most anyone 'in the know' will buy from them is an amp, which Stetsom completely wipes rf off the face of the planet when it comes to performance, so their amps and subs are easily blown away at shows regularly. No rf koolaid for me.
Btw, they HAD to come out with something big and new, because noone in the serious car audio world buys their crap hardly. Their amps may 'do their rated and then some', but the numbers they 'do' are puny anyway, so not that big of a feat. Hell my amp does a full 4k at like half volume. In rf crap, 4k is like the holy grail of an amp. Their 15k is a publicity stunt. Granted they'll be glad to sell you one for 12 thousand dollars, and oh yeah, it only does 15k for 1 billionth of a sec, 4k on the regular. So now you just spent 12 gs for a steady 4k. Other brands laugh at those numbers. But you know that, you're just enchanted by rf's new shiny stuff. Keep in mind rf is pricey, not all that awesome anymore stuff, with marginal abilities. 50 cars at the last show I competed at, not one rf anything.

Most high excursion subwoofers can't reach full xmax (which is actually only truly measured as one way linear) before reaching their thermal limits.
As far as pricing on Rockford stuff, a returning customer to a local dealer can easily receive discounts of up to 40-50%. Sure its still spendy for their higher end subs. Specially the new ones sure for shipping soon. T2 13 & 16" models 1300-1500 t3 19" 2500 process are msrp. However if you can get a 40% price cut they are well worth the money. They have years of r&d, outstanding customer service, great warranties, readily available, warrants usually consist of of the shelf swaps. The tech used in the new subs I'd their own with a patent pending. Custom built and tooled motors, magnets and everything. It isn't an of the shelf part that any company can access. The coast you pay at a local dealer includes, research and development, the patents, shipping, warranty, quality control, build cost, employee cost, insurance, electricity, water, heating, lease/rent, building equipment, shipping, customer service, and of course after all that they need to pay their own bills, put food on their tables and clothes on their back.
Yes the product cost more but they have a lot to cover and still have to make money. That is business. Online dealers have less over head then local dealers and can supply product to a wider range of consumers. They can buy bigger bulk amounts because the higher amount of possible customers and sell for less due to less overhead. You also have to pay for shipping, pay for two way shipping on warranty, wait for shipping which for warranties can take a few weeks to a few months, no face to face customer service, less chance to hear/see the product in person and most online companies are not authorized dealers and don't give the same warranty as the company that makes the product.

|cheap sleeper||Yo! If you want killer subs man for less than that mainstream rockford stuff, get Tantric HDDs. Tjat's gonna be my next subs for sure when these soloxs give up the ghost. Tantric makes HDDs in 8"-24" I already spoke to Murphy about the 24s. The HDD has ~106mm p-p 4Xmm one way linear. Way better xmech than any of the other companies with 'super woofers'. I have enjoyed these soloxs though. They have taken a great deal of 6000W abuse and the coils still look new! I've got at least a thousand hours on these coils. The xmech on them is really high, around 88mm I think the Kicker tech told me. They do 28 one way linear. My bl factor is 39.2! :p|

Maybe its just me but I would have to see it to believe it. I'm not saying kicker can't get down, I know it can. I just personally don't believe things without some sort of proof. When it comes to numbers I only look at sealed up on the dash or at the headrest scores. No one listens to music by their feet or with a door open.
I'm personally waiting f for the new Rockford stuff that is to be shipped during and after CES this year.
Single voice coil 1 & 2 ohm versions available
Also available in a 13"
2 different places are demoing and testing them for Rockford. McCain mobile audio and low note garage. Both of them have 2 16" on 2 2500.1 doing insane hair tricks. They are the real deal with a shipping weight of 100 lbs, sub itself is said to be at about 88-90 lbs
They also have a w while new line. T3 series, don't know what all they have coming for those but they do have a 19" sub with a neo motor and 5" voice coil. Don't know the rms rating but it has 70mm x max peak to peak 35mm one way. They are calling it their first super woofer.
One of the 16" has a future in my hatch with a 2500.1bdcp.

But watch out for L7s and solo xs they SOMETIMES can kill other people with very high end brand stuff all at shows. I see it all the time. Never under estimate an l7 lol. I saw a guy do a 165 with 1 L7 12 in an extreme vehicle, I shit you not. I personally just beat a guy at the last contest that had a pair of sundown 18s in a walled kia with about 300 sq in. of port. He had 4 batts and about 5k. I have no batts, no wall, no actual box, only 1 0/1 running from my batt to the back. I got him by almost 1.5dB. ;) My rig plays the full sub spectrum very very well too, from 65hz down to 20s, great for any music, even slowed down stuff.
Also the only 4 12s walled daily driver car thats in the 160s in the whole iasca or usaci circuit is a guy using 4 solox 12s.
Another guy in usaci does 150.2 with 2 cvr 12s and 322 Watts! I guess my point is, you can get killer output from kicker's higher end stuff if you are good at car audio. Im definitely not saying kicker is 'awesome' or anything, just be careful to think you'll easily win against a guy who's good at car audio who has some kicker shtuff.
But otherwise, I'm sure we would agree on most all brands. You are obviously into car audio as myself, so I know you know what good sht is. I agree with your statement I quoted too :p When I'm finally bored of playin with these solos, I'm gonna go with Tantric.
Just wanted to say watch out for muhfuggers with kicker! Lololol
