sailor I did write it up as three main positions so it fits your 6-spd as well.

Reverse is an extra move to one side from the main three of the left/right cable operation.

From centered, you normally press the lever left to be able to move it forward and back for 1st & 2nd - leave it alone for 3rd & 4th - and to the right position for 5th & sixth.

laser411 Wouldn't it be 4 though since it's a 6 speed and we have reverse?

sailor Yes, basically the same for any cable operated shifter.

The idea is to get the lever in the middle of it's travel for the middle position of the transmission levers. Some have posted alternative methods involving setting cable length at an extreme position (shift and trans levers at an in gear position) then checking the opposite positions & neutral to see if the lever comes back to center and has normal travel in each direction.

Clear as mud?

Just think of the shift lever & trans levers as having three main positions, fully in either direction or centered.

laser411 Is this process basically the same for the SVT?

All I had to do was hit neutral and had someone hold the shifter dead center inside, then hit the orange buttons. I heard them move a little when I hit the buttons. The main thing is to be sure your in neutral. Not an expert, but if you can't hold centered on the shifter and stay in neutral, you may need to hold the button and move the shift linkage by hand.

I just wanted to tell the op thanks for the write up. Great job identifying all the hidden screws on the interior. Still lots of wiggling things around to get them moving on this job though. She's done now and shifting great. Now on to the lower ball joint, lol.

About adjusting the cables.

Justcantfocus1627 I was wondering if I could get more information on taking off the cable clamp I can't seem to get it off. It's sliding freely with the orange button pushed in but it won't come off the black part due to a little bump it's the white clamp

Tom Added this to the how-to archive. If you want to email me your address and color preference I can send you out a couple of decals.
