|beat3rfocus||I do 300 to 325 miles per fill up in the miata. This is at 80 mph usually. Shifting at 5k and up. Top down.|

55k miles logged on it so far without issue lol
had to go look it up, 1 gallon of diesel at 2 degrees F expands to 1.037 gallons at 100 degrees F. assuming I buy fuel at the gas station closest to my house when its 2 degrees and then drive home 5 miles to where its 100 degrees theres still going to be extra space in the tank for expansion

This is also doing 75-78mph for the entire 100 mile round trip with 2 miles of country roads getting onto the highway and 2 miles of city streets getting off the highway.
Normally I set the cruise right at 80 but with the less traffic and no stops I've been leaving it a bit lower and still arriving at the same time.
it's not that unusual for a mk4 tdi though, on the tdiforums theres a whole thread devoted to guys that regularly get over 800 miles on a tank (54mpg or better basically) I just don't have the patience to drive the whole commute at 65-70mph for basically 2 weeks to see that sort of mileage.
one last interesting fact, the tdi tank is actually the same part number as the gasser tank which is rated at 13.5 gallons. Because gasoline expands so much based on temperature there is a pressure relief/airtrap that basically never lets the tank get more than 13.5 gallons of fuel plus 1.5 gallons of airspace, since diesel doesn't expand the first mod every TDI owner does is pull out the airtrap so that you can get the full 15 gallons of diesel into it which gives an extra 125-150 miles between fill ups.
