Final Thoughts on Rivals

K, so I ran my whole 2013 season (short season for me - 6 events - as my wife is expecting any day now!) on Rivals (205/50R15) on 15x6 OEM alloys w/FRPP Dampers...here are my final thoughts:

- Tires BY FAR out performed the entire rest of my car's suspension! I run in stock class and since I started with a basic ZX4 SE I couldn't modify my suspension enough to take full advantage of grip these tires offer

- In the stock class, with the higher non-SVT suspension and no rear bar, I had to run incredibly high tire pressures, not just in the rear, but front as well (48/50). if I didn't, I was actually using the sidewall of the tire down into the lettering.

- Tires didn't like running back to back too much. Seemed to do better if I took at least 5 min between runs to check tire pressure/air down before hitting it again.

Next season I plan to add a rear bar and see if I can't tweak the alignment settings to try and get a little bit more out of this rubber, but with the changes to SCCA rules (Stock > Street) I definately plan to stick wtih the Rivals!!!

tukaniSVT ^^ You ran awesome last AutoX Ian. Definitely a huge improvement over the last time you ran.

tigercrazy718 here are some quick thoughts on the direzza zII's: i love them. granted im coming from some all seasons but damn they grip good. and I think they give a decent amount of feedback from what i noticed, and they were good enough for me to win H stock and also I wouldve come in 2nd in STF with a completely stock SVT focus. now i just need to pull my ABS/TC fuse when i go next time since the ABS was crazy intrusive during my runs.

ecugrad Just ran my first even on the BFG rivals. 02 SVT, Bilstein shocks, 380/400 springs, big ass Steeda Rear bar, 2.5" Exhaust, Tom's tune

205/50/15 Rivals on 15x7.5" Slipstreams in the front
215/40/17 Z1's on 17x7.5" Kazera's in the back

Yeah it looks kinda funny but it seemed to work real well. The budget didn't allow for new wheels/tires all around :(

The Rival totally blew me away on the first run. The turn right g NOW and grip like crazy. They really remind me of the old Kumho Victoracer with a ton of squeal. I was completely turning into cones to begin with as I wasn't expecting them to grip and turn like theydid. Will probably tweak the alignment a bit but overall the Rival REALLY impressed me.

STS-focus Just met him and Brandon Hagaman at the Milwaukee Match, Invited them out with the Chicago Drinking Team. They partied for little bit, good peoples for sure.

Sully313 we shall. Do you know John Li? He's a central IL guy displaced to the Detroit area.

STS-focus Good Luck at the Pro and we will have to meet at the Champs!

Sully313 Yeah... I'm familiar with Jack Burns, Jon Souder and Ketih Koegler. Jack always beats me, Jon and I are 1-1 and Keith has me 2-1 so far this year in RTF locally. I took the last month off and put a lot of work into my car so hopefully it pays off. Some performance... some necessity. New stock springs front and rear, new tires, new to me wheels, new cat back exhaust, new steering rack, outer tie rods and power steering pump.

The Toledo Pro should be a good gauge.

STS-focus I have done some test n tune at the local drag strip and was working the lights a lot better than I thought I would so I will definitely be doing a Pro in the future. Especially if one comes closer to Chicago. Had to try the Match due to the soft STF PAX, did another because the Super Shootout was so much fun.

Good Luck on the F-Modster hope it works out, if not you have your work cut out for you in RTF, I know a few of those guys.

Sully313 You should do a Pro Solo. Its lots of fun. You should have skipped one of those match tours and added the Pro. It fills up fast for a reason. I was also signed up for the Wilmington champ tour but I leave for Kansas City the weekend after and I'm sure my GF would appreciate it if I didn't go to an autocross.

Yeah... RTF is just a place holder. I haven't received the word if my FMod ride is going to come through or not. Absolute worst case, I'll run my car but I really don't want to.
