ChalupaJones I've got the shroud completely out on mine, been like that for a couple years now. I still get 41-42mpg highway at 70-75mph. Haven't had any issues with rain or anything. It's up to you if you pull it out completely or cut part of it. I've even seen some people just clamp it into a different position.

There's no proof of benifit from having the shroud removed, but if anything, it should only help. I've thought about doing it as well, but I'm on the highway(s) way too much to chance it.

Two things I've noticed: slightly louder engine note, and slight throttle response. That's it, but I still think the mod was worth it. Oh, and it may have helped MPG's.

Scougar That rubber section just looks like it seals the plastic section attached to it.

The thing I feel the most is quicker throttle response. I don't notice much of an increase in intake noise but I didn't really expect to as the filter is still enclosed in the stock air box.

I have the AEM & snorkel delete. I noticed an increase in engine note, and the throttle response was improved as well.

morrjr I've had the AEM DryFlow filter for awhile, but I hadn't done the snorkel delete until tonight. That ten minute job really does make a difference.
