Nice pictures, but I think the comparison would be more fair if the cars were the same color and the photos were from exactly the same angle. From what I've seen, both cars have certain angles that flatter them, and some that don't. The best way to compare is to see both sitting side-by-side in real life. Or ten years later. (Anyone else ever look back at some old car you used to like and wonder "what was I thinking?")

If you are saying they actually like the way it looks I'm having a hard time believing that. Are you assuming that, or do you actually know some? I can see differences of opinion on the Focus and the Dart, but the Aztec? Are we talkin' about the same car?

Come to think of it, you did say just that they like it, not that they thought it looked attractive. I guess there could be some reverse-snob-appeal thing about it, and you wouldn't have any trouble picking it out on a crowded parking lot full of Hondas and Toyotas. Or rhinoceros and hippopotamus, for that matter.

That's also a problem you wouldn't have with a Focus, but in a better way to my eye. I don't think it struck me as really good looking when I first saw it, just better than the Mazda3 that had been on the top of my short list to buy up 'til then. (Also not the most attractive looking car around, but nowhere near Aztec level ugly.) The Focus is distinctive, but not as odd as the Mazda big smile. I think it is more that I have talked myself into liking the way the Focus looks because I like other things about the car, rather than liking the way it looks right away. Styling is never the top concern to me in buying a car, anyway. (I guess that's obvious if I'd even consider buying a Mazda3.)

The Dart looked pretty good to me the first time I saw a picture of it, especially those wheels, but it looks only slightly more exciting to me than a Jetta GLI or Civic Si. (I wouldn't call either of them ugly, just a bit plain.) I think the "racetrack" tail lights on the Dart are a bit gimicky looking, though.

The Dart price is pretty good for all you get, especially for anyone who buys a car by the pound. No matter how good it looks, or how good its price is, or how good it might feel to drive, I'd be pretty wary of buying anything from Chrysler. Even if it came straight from Fiat/Alfa Romeo I would give it at least a year to mature. I'm still working hard to trust Ford enough to buy a 2013 Focus.

Much depends on the execution of the design. From what i've read the focus wins hands down in the dynamics and handling dept., for example.

The worth of a car is not only in it's cost.
Like cobie56 said. It takes more than a good price to sell me. Even good looks and good reviews don't matter as much to me the opinions of people who own and have lived with the car do.

And it had an engine that was only marginally better than the worst engine GM ever made (2.8L V6).

Right. Despite its somewhat more dowdy looks, that Dart GT sure has a compelling value proposition. Of course it all depends on how it drives and if it's noticeably quicker and handles as well as our Focus.

I feel the same way, hopefully the next gen will have a sportier look like the Dart.

Bleed Blue Seeing as the Focus sold 22,604 last month and they sold just 6,105 Darts, its going to take a lot more money to make people switch. IMO, the poor sales have more to do with looks then anything else. Then again, it might be more like the last Pontiac GTO. If they had named the car anything else, it might not have been such a flop.

That title will forever be the Pontiac Aztec until some thing worse comes along... Truthly I love the look of a non black dart the blue and dark red being my favorite colors for the car.

BaconZombie Excuse me, but I'm anything but a lazy driver. I like the rain sensing wipers because I don't have to constantly adjust the speed to compensate for the different rain amounts. It's just convenient and allows me to pay better attention to the road. If you were from where I live, you'd understand that once it starts raining around here, people completely forget how to drive. And I don't constantly leave them on anyhow. I still do turn them off when I don't need them. It's just one less thing I have to worry about.
